Buffalo Wings

I've seen some semi-related threads on the topic, but never one dedicated to one of the best creations in culinary history.

For me, the best wings I've ever had - and nothing else compares - come from The Chicken or the Egg on Long Beach Island in Jersey. Huge wings, excellent breading (or naked if you prefer) and 16 delicious sauces to choose from. Their Ludicrous Challenge was even featured on Man vs. Food several years back. Can't wait to get down the shore for these this summer.

So what are your favorite wing places, sauces and styles?

Wings are like pizza and blow jobs, even when they are not great they are still pretty good.

I always thought the wings from hooters were pretty good.

I like a little breading then sauce.

Place in Lock Haven in middle of PA has really cheap wings that are great. They have a great old bay dry rub. Wings to Go is also good for a chain. Buffalo Wild Wings and Quaker Steak suck dick.

Best wings I ever had though was from place in Wildwood, not sure if it was Crest, North, or normal WW but they advertised saying they had the greatest wings on earth and damn did they back it up

For a chain place, Hooters wings are decent. Same with BWW. Not bad for a day watching sports and having some beers.

Chegg wings are a fucking monster of a meal in and of themselves though. At least twice the size of Hooters and so many more sauce options.

This place was on man vs. food. It's on our list to try out.

I was surprised food won, I thought for sure he'd be able to do it.

I've heard they're great, along with Jug Handle. As for the chains you listed I think PJ's are my favorite, but Chickie's wings are also very good.

I'm hard pressed to believe I'll like anything more than Chegg though. They're on another planet. I get like 50 to go at the end of the season, bag them up and freeze them, and they reheat great all winter long until they reopen.

There's a few local places around me that are very good. I don't eat at chains very often but they just opened a BWW's near me about a year or so ago. Was pleasantly surprised at how decent the wings were.

I prefer making them on my own though. I've won a few BBQ competitions with my wings. I dry-rub and smoke them with a mixture of cherry/apple/hickory wood for about 1.5 - 2 hrs then char-grill them. For the sauce, I've unlocked a secret ratio of BBQ sauce / hot sauce that makes them just hot enough but not too hot. It also delays the heat a bit... Yo can usually get down 2-3 before you realize there's much heat at all.

Wings are kind of like Philly cheesesteak, most places don't know how to make them right. Including most of the descriptions I've heard in here so far. If you leave the upstate NY area more times than not they aren't good.

    I guess I'm a purist.

best wings i've ever had were at the buffalo brew pub. i probably don't need to tell you where that is.

i've been to anchor bar and duff's plenty of times as well, don't think they're as good.

Best wings in NY in my experience can be had now in Buffalo too, at any Dinosaur BBQ location. Don't order them with one of the sauces the menu advertises, but rather ask for them to be done like the ribs, original BBQ. Slow smoked pit wings, soooooo good.

NY - Buffalo, Rochester, original Syracuse location, Harlem, Troy and Brooklyn.
Also Stamford, CT and Newark, NJ.

    http://www.dinosaurbarbque.com/locations/

Other Buffalo faves are La Nova (bbq on the pit) and Imperial Pizza. Duffs don't offer pit-finish which makes the wings for me. If you're just looking for naked with traditional Buffalo sauce then it's hard to go wrong anywhere in Buffalo.
