I like it on first listen, but not sure if it will age well.

I dig it. It hits all the right notes for me. I can't wait to hear what the rest of the band does to it.

I like this as much as I like Black & Blue Bird. It may grow on me more, but it's solid already. I hope they do bust this out full band in Charlottesville.

I feel like that's one of the best songs he's wrote in the last 10 years. If you can't enjoy that, I feel bad.

    Agreed!

People need to realize dave is 50 and he's not going to write another song similar to the Stone, Seek Up, Crush, Dreaming Tree.

I think this is a great song. If you don't like this, I'm not sure any new dave song will ever satisfy you again

I really like this song. I can see an album with vitr, bb&b, samurai cop and this on it, they all have the same theme in a way.

Second listen I liked it much better. Agree the guitar work is really nice. Tim had some nice flamenco sounding stuff going on around 2:40 or so. I could really see the band doing some cool fill-in. Excited to see what happens with it.

What about the part that happens at around 2:45? That's a bridge and has the potential for more with the band. It could make a cool spot for a Boyd solo, but I have little faith any of the new tunes will feature Boyd.

Great tune. Well done, Dave. This gives me hope that a really good album could be headed our way next year. I don't want to set unattainable expectations, but I just have a good feeling they're going to nail this next album. As a huge fan I have to believe it's possible that they're capable of getting it right for the fans. 2016 was a solid tour and stopping point, the break has been good, the Dave and Tim tour was a success, and now we're due for a great DMB album and 2018 tour.

I'd also add that while the chorus comes quick, that's Dave. That's how he used to write. He wrote music that didn't always make sense. You had to listen to it a few times until you could make sense of it and appreciate it. For example, I loved You Never Know right away, but it took me a few listens to make sense of the abrupt change to the 5/4 time signature.

Ooh, I really like it!! Great little tune. Dave's moving melody on the "Do youuuuuoowoooo..." parts is beautiful! And I hear elements of Bismark and Pig, both of which I dig a lot!

Can't wait to hear this full band!!

I hear something that sounds like Warehouse at the end.

    https://youtu.be/IL2J6KzBgZM?t=3m47s

    Anyone hear it?

Edit: Maybe not Warehouse, but Tim's little thing sounds like a song I know and I can't figure out what it is.

I'm not saying that I have a problem with the childlike innocence theme in general..I think it's a core pillar in DM's songwriting..I just feel like every song is based in that theme now.

But some of these lines are bordering on cliche pop country ("Love in the backseat", "Color of summer" both making me cringe from some reason)... I dig the guitar riff though, definitely in that Paul Simon, Bismarck world..I like that a lot

I think this song and the song from the Lincoln Center last fall/winter are getting more praise than they deserve. this can be a nice song full band, though, but, at least how it's performed now, is right in line with the 2009 onward songs

Kind of sounds like Me and Julio Down by the Schoolyard to me. Not spot on but a little. KWIM? And I mean that end part... not the whole song.

I will agree that it didn't grab me from the first listen like some other songs have. I was not a fan of the yoooooooouuuuu's when I first listened to it but by the third listen I'm enjoying it.

So what should Dave write about at 50? Bismarck and Bob Law don’t really follow that childlike innocence. Neither did quite a bit on AFTW or BW.

And why does every lyric need to be deep and philosophical? Sure, I love the fact that we have those songs in the catalog, and a lot of them are my favorite songs, but I love a good fun song a lot of times too. A lot of “old” DMB has cliche, silly lyrics too.

While I still really like this song I think it's missing a section whether it be a pre or post-chorus. In terms of Dave's songwriting these days I think he lacks the patience and focus to make COMPLETE songs that are not repetitive, that grow as the song progresses, and are unpredictable in structure. He's had actually a lot of good ideas over the years that make for good parts of songs but the songs as a whole feel incomplete. I think he's so ADHD that he gets tired of working on one individual song for a long time and prefers to moving on to writing the next.
