Completely forgettable, to be honest. Haven't listened to it in probably 3.5 years.

The band's live treatment of the album since its release probably has a lot to do with why nobody really reaches for this record anymore.

It's a really good DMB album but requires rehearsal.

UTTAD Sessions began May 16th, 1994 in Woodstock, NY.

Crash Sessions began September 1st, 1995 in Bearsville, NY.

BTCS Sessions began February 1st, 1998 in Sausalito, CA.

The Lillywhite Sessions began February 1st, 2000 in Charlottesville, VA

Busted Stuff Sessions began January 1st, 2002 (estimate) in Sausalito, CA.

The Some Devil Sessions began November 1st, 2002 in Seattle, WA.

The 2004 Sessions began April 1st, 2004 in Charlottesville, VA.

The Stand Up Sessions began January 1st, 2005 (estimate) in Charlottesville, VA.

The 2007 Mark Batson Sessions began January 1st, 2007 (estimate) in Charlottesville, VA.

The Big Whiskey Sessions began January 1st, 2009 (estimate) in New Orleans, LA.

The Away From The World Sessions began January 1st, 2012 (estimate) in Seattle, WA.

The Jakob Dylan/Dave Matthews Sessions took place in Shreveport, LA between 2013 and 2014.
Not sure what they base this off of, but I think the info for Before These Crowded Streets and Stand Up is incorrect. They were in the studio for Before These Crowded Streets in the fall of 97, and they were in the studio for Stand Up in the fall of 2004.

MTV Ultrasound shows them working on Rapunzel in the CA studio and it says "11.97" in the corner. The Stand Up behind the scenes DVD that came with Stand Up shows them in the studio in the fall of 04 and I also recall them sending a holiday greeting from the studio that year. We also know that the sessions for Big Whiskey started before Leroi died in 2008. Maybe they mean official recording sessions? But Crowded Streets started in CA and they ended the sessions in NYC (according to Ultrasound).

Which is a shame, because that record is the most "DMB sounding" record since Busted Stuff. I'm in the minority that always thought this album translated very well live, but they just chose not to focus on those tunes apparently. Whereas I didn't think Big Whiskey's tunes translated to the live setting as well. With the Away From the World songs sounding more like earlier DMB I always thought the songs reflected that same sentiment in a live setting, so I'm always cool with seeing those songs pop up in a set.

I'd be happy to see the following in regular rotation

    Broken Things
Belly Belly Nice (WITH Boyd's solo being audible)
    Mercy
    Gaucho
Sweet (every now and then would be cool. It's a nice little song)
    Rooftop
    Snow Outside
    Drunken Soldier

I can live without the other 3.

I dont think any of the bolded have translated live well at all.

I also think rooftop is bottom of the barrel DMB though.

I didn't like the breakdown they came up with for Rooftop, but the way Carter brought the song back in made up for it...pretty massive!

It's a decent album, shame they didn't play Broken Things more as that and Snow Outside are the highlights for me. Drunken Soldier was the biggest disappointment, nothing happens in the second part of the song. It could have been Proudest Monkey Pt II.

The lyrics ruin DS for me unfortunately. Theres some cool stuff musically on the album that just flat out cant be translated to the stage though.

I thought Gaucho was a pretty cool tune musically. The lyrics aren't the best, but I always felt the music made up for it. Maybe regular rotation wasn't the best word, but I wouldn't mind seeing this one pop up here and there each tour. I feel the same about Rooftop, which is another one that I think would be better if they kept Boyd's solo.

Drunken Soldier is also not the best lyrically, but it's also not terrible. The music is very good and I love that spacey kind of ending. I thought that was really great live.

It's come to feel a little lifeless for me. I think there are some really good songs on it, but in stark contrast with Big Whiskey being overproduced, this is tragically underproduced. I wish the band would have just stuck with Cavallo and tried evolving with him.

I wonder what made them scrap the 04 songs. I just don't get it.

That's probably my biggest "what if" regarding DMB, with the Lillywhite Sessions/Everyday debacle being a close 2nd.

    Imagine a 2005 album like--

    Hello Again
    Good Good Time
    Joyride
    Sugar Will
    Loving Wings
    Crazy Easy
    #40
    Sweet Up & Down
    American Baby Intro
    Monkey Man
    Build You a House
    JTR

Love it, and was clamouring for them to play more of it last tour. Liked it better then BW. If Only has such a sexy groove and musically some of the songs are very complex and interesting for me.

Laughed at seeing ABI w/o American Baby. Still a pretty dope album that would have really changed the landscape for them moving forward.

This record has aged well with me. The sad part is that it has not resonated live very well for me. I love all the studio takes and then roll my eyes when i hear them live

This exactly. If Only is so groovy on the album and literally bores me to tears live

I like AFTW and have been surprised at how little play the songs have gotten live (especially compared to BW). It's not a perfect album, but I would love to hear Broken Things, Rooftop, Gaucho, or Snow Outside during a show.

Still a wonderfully produced album that's songs never had a chance to blossom on the road.

I really enjoy Broken Things, BBN, The Riff, If Only, Snow Outside and Drunken Soldier on the album itself. I really could care less about most of the rest of the album though so it is very hit or miss.

The lack of any of them really being great live really hurts the album ranking high for me.

Really enjoy the bridge they added especially without the LL's and when Carter syncopates with Jeff's baritone riff.

Belly Belly Nice - Rarely listen to this.
Belly Full - I find myself singing this in head more often than a lot of DMB songs for some reason.
Broken Things - Never really listen to this.
Drunken Soldier - Every once in a while i put this on
Gaucho - This guitar riff is forever stuck in my head. Idk why, it just is.
If Only - One of my favorite post 07 DMB songs.
Mercy - i still like the kids being involved and still wish we could get the entire crowd to sing that part. I think it would have a bigger impact live if so
Riff, The - the fading "everything" in to the jammy part lyric is still awesome. Love it.
    Rooftop - Cool enough
    Snow Outside - decent song.
Sweet - I love this song. Especially when the band kicks in. Super cool. Maybe because i heard the first version ever but something within it resonates with me.

Overall, I still like Big Whiskey better maybe? It's definitely better than Everyday and Stand Up.

Sweet might be my favorite song since BW came out. I agree with the above comment-I heard the first version too and there's just something about the song that hits the spot. Pretty sure after the first few lines of the song it's not at all about learning how to swim...

People that can't see past that are the ones that think the song isn't any good. Oh well.

Still listening to it pretty regularly, but I'm skipping the Mercy-Gaucho-Sweet run pretty much every time.

I think it's a great album, nowhere near top 3, but I still love it. I guess I'm in the minority in that I love Drunken Soldier and would love to hear it live. Maybe because Floyd is my 2nd favorite band and the 2nd half reminds me of that.
