That was the first T Swift song I've heard since Blank Space maybe. It was surprisingly, to me at least, quite good, and so much different that what I thought she was. Is that whole album like that?



Why would you not want it? Who cares if the songs have their legs yet. Seeing new content of the boys playing together and giving us a live twist on the new songs we may not get to hear live for a while would be really cool.

Agreed, I'll take new DMB in any format.

And T Swift made some great music. Give the album a listen!

I appreciate their efforts in 2020 but i echo the substance of the quote you're referencing because i think it pertains to studio releases. as good as some of the studio material is, this band is just not a studio band and they are not oriented towards releasing studio albums. Dave has disavowed the notion of studio albums for a long time in the age of digital music yet the band continues to record, and is sitting on loads of material. it's totally their prerogative as artists, i just don't particularly understand it. why invest the time and resources to record studio albums of course, there's a lot i don't understand about the bands' taste in its own music and its choices on studio albums. regardless, if history means anything, there really is no reason to anticipate anything at this point. when and if anything does materialize i'll be right there salivating like the rest of you.

Agreed. Dave stepped up big time with all those solo shows, and quite frankly the break got me more excited about the band again. I've even grown to appreciate the new form of the band.

And the Drive-ins were great. For obvious reasons they had to release shows from 2018 and 19. The band wants to stay relevant, so they're not going to release an old show from a band that doesn't exist every week. Speaking of every week...they posted a live show EVERY week this summer for like 12 weeks straight! We hsvr something like 12 DVD quality shows that didn't exist before last summer. Among those they released a stellar 2003 LT show, an 06 show that was also stellar given the performances, the most wanted caravan show from 2011 Atlantic City, a pretty interesting 2010 show, solid show from 07 with Roi, Roi's LAST show, and one of the most coveted shows of all time, N3 Gorge 02...not sure what they did wrong here.

One thing I’ve been thinking about lately - we are truly living in an awful time right now. I’m not sure I actually want a new album right now because I’ll forever associate it with this horrible period of time. Busted Stuff, BW, and Come Tomorrow all make me think of summers. AFTW and Some Devil make me think of nice early Fall memories. Do I want to think about COVID lockdowns in winter when I think of this new album forever?

Does this really surprise anyone though? I mean, I think over the years it’s become pretty crystal clear that when it has come to band decisions, only one member of the band’s input/decisions matter.

Actually all of the things that have helped me get through early lockdown days in 2020 I see even more fondly because of the time it was in. I think if they had dropped an album last summer, we'd probably have a layer of appreciation for it with retrospect because it would have been when we "needed it most."

THAT will be interesting to see if it comes up true.....that it’s all new songs. I mean if will be I guess if all songs are from the October session.

So really all we concretely know is:
-Dave was in Charlottesville writing and demoing songs in late summer/early fall
-Dave got encouraged to bring in Carter and he brought him in
-Dave and carter worked on tunes together then - felt good enough to dial up full band
-Dave and carter clearly sent demos to all the other band members that they wrote to and sent around digitally given quarantine, so imagine there was some back and forth there
-whole band gets together in Charlottesville in October 2020 and works on the tunes more / manages to record all of them
-once that session ends, everyone kind of goes home, and now we are where we are.....

So I mean we’ll see.....we know this all happened organically vs on any kind of timeline dictated by anyone so hope is that the band just liked the tunes and how they came out and in 2021 they decide to release them, however that release looks like. So here’s to hoping!

I am not the biggest CT fan, but definitely like some of the tunes quite a bit, and I guess any new music would obviously be welcome. The way I view it, if the band can make an album with 4-6 "good" tunes - not necessarily great, but pleasant-sounding, well-produced, with some solid lyrics if not "Cry Freedom"/"Spoon" quality -then I'm all for it. I don't expect another BTCS/Crash classic album with every song a +1 or a monster.

But I believe Dave and the boys are up to the task of still writing and playing some good tunes together... I also (choose to) believe this time away from each other due to COVID, and Dave bringing in Carter and then the band despite the difficulty of it, means that he and they feel good about the music to make it happen.

Hopefully this makes sense, sorry for the rambling. Excited for some new music hopefully, and maybe some live performances, even if done virtually/on Facebook or whatever.

Jeff was on a sports talk show here in Nashville about a 1 1/2 months ago, and he said when asked about touring again that he expects them to be back on the road by June. He never was asked nor talked anything about a forthcoming album. But maybe he was on another sports talk show...
