I agree but they are so expensive, double the cost of a nice commercial Hustler.

Plus they have recently changed their engine models to a lower end Briggs that I prefer to avoid (unless its a Vanguard).

I pay a dude to maintain my yard every two weeks. He fertilizes too. It's a new home/yard so I wanted to at least get the first year right.

Its really bumpy still. nearly tore my acl just kicking a soccer ball around the other day. We're going to have it aerated and leveled in year 2 and 3. I guess its a whole process. My only real goal is to just not have the shittiest lawn in the neighborhood.

    Re: Lawncare/Landscape Thread

Moved into our house last May with a good size yard of fescue, but I felt like I spent most of that first summer mowing weeds. Other than mowing and edging, it just wasn't high enough on the priority list. Got a weed company started this spring and I think they've helped some, but since it was after the fall when I should've aerated and overseeded and all that, it was too late to keep the crabgrass away and have it look really good. I'm hoping now that I have them and we can do all that stuff this fall, it'll look really good next season. There's also sort of a fight between the fescue and bermuda in my back yard...

I'm also looking forward to doing some pinestraw probably next month, and trimming my pampas grass plants and crepe myrtles this winter.

I'm still shopping for a ZRT mower. I will probably wait till March/April to purchase so I don't waste a season of warranty but am leaning towards a Ferris (due to suspension) or Hustler (due to the flip up deck). Anyone have any experience with either of these two companies or any of their zero turn models?

Zero turns are awesome. Wanted to buy one for my place, but went with a lawn tractor due to cost. Also agree in waiting to buy so you don't burn up warranty time (unless there's some great deals that pop up before spring).

Unless the warranty time goes by months and not years, you're not going to burn any warranty time. I would also expect prices to be better now than spring.

Are there products where the warranty period clock doesn't begin at date of purchase?

You're not going to be using it during the offseason either way. If you have a 5 year warranty, whats the difference if it expires in December 2021 or March 2022? you're not going to be using it during that time so you won't know if it breaks down.

    You do have a point.

I was more concerned with a tire being flat, an oil leak developing, dead battery (pbly wouldnt be covered), seized deck bearing, etc over winter storage. I would hope to discover these things during my summerization in March. It could potentially save me some $ in a season, 3 to 5 years down the road.

Nice! How big is your yard?

I'm mowing about 12K square feet with typical sized lawn mower.

3 acres with alot of trees and buildings to go around. Zero turn mower is a must.

Spot planting in the fall and covering with straw works best in my area. The morning dew usually provides enough moisture.

Its difficult with a dog, but in line with what jmcNumbers said, seed in the fall and cover with something to hold in the moisture. I usually use peet moss.

Any recommendations on brand of fescue grass seed to purchase? Used pennington last year but haven't been blown away by it. Planning to overseed in the fall

I would go with Scotts brand. It costs a little more than other options but it rarely lets me down.

Plus my cousin works for them.

I've bought seed from this store before. It's pricier than Scotts, but had great results:

Anyone have any tips for keeping doggie pee stains from showing up? I know that there are tablets you can give your dog but I've read conflicting reviews on them and they don't seem healthy for the dog. I've tried giving her Greek yogurt (a tip I got from my cousin who swore by it) but it doesn't seem to be working.

    Why?

... it's not even about time being more valuable at that point, it takes me an hour and fifteen minutes to mow, weed whack, and clean my patio, driveway, and sidewalks with the leaf blower.

If you have a small yard and the dog is always going in the same spot just use the watering can or hose to dilute the urine. Trying to control the PH is too unpredictable from day to day.
