5/3 is my bank. I called to order $3k in yen. They said they could order it and there was no fee. But the exchange rate was 7-8% worse than the spot market. So I said I'd call back and did some research. Other banks including an online currency company that I looked into had a similar exchange rate. And a few articles I read said your local bank or credit union is your best bet. Don't have a credit union.

    Like overseas X bank usually has Y partner (so you can use their ATMs and withdraw money). I never get money before hand for the reason you mention.
