Re: Live Trax or SBD of every show?

My attitude has completely changed.

I used to favor the LTs and say releasing every show was dumb.

But I've pretty much stopped caring about the LTs even when they're good releases. There's just too many of them for me to care and DMB doesn't occupy the same amount of space in my listening diet anymore.

However, if they started releasing them all, I'd probably pick up a few of my favorite shows I was at if they started putting them out, especially older ones like 7.25.00, 10.2.07, 9.3.06 ...

I feel like there is very little chance they'd do it retroactively. Might be a slightly better chance they'd add a step to their workflow to put SBDs up for new shows.

True. Converting 25 years of shows into full-length releases? I'd doubt it.

    But a person can hope.

    Right, no-one claimed otherwise.

A resurgence of physical music media has been growing annually again. Yet, DVD and Blu-ray sales are falling, while streaming is surging. Keep the Live Trax series.

Can we get more Live Trax on vinyl? Live Trax 7 please. It would have also been fun if the upcoming Gorge Live Trax 44 had a vinyl pairing in the bundles.

^ The fact that cassettes are a niche market again is baffling to me.

Cassettes were a shitty, pain-in-the-ass format the first time. Who the hell was asking for their resurgence?

I do get, though, that it's a cheap format for upstart artists to put out a record. Also, if you're at the merch stand and a button and a cassette are both $5, it's a cool way to support the actual work of the artist.

It is crazy how things like cassettes can experience a cyclical resurgence. People love analog and the physical ritual, myself included (vinyl). I have a ton of cassettes from back in the day I should sell that I got at Goodwill and thrift shops before they were a 'thing' again. 47 cents a piece and often less because I knew people at the Goodwill.

It is a cool way to support an artist exclusively.

Edit: My wife was at dinner with her friends the other night and one of them showed a picture of a pencil and a cassette regarding how they were related. The child didn't know what a cassette was. "Sad!"

I'd be fine with soundboards if they would release live trax films like the upcoming live trax 44 blu ray.

I would say start offering SBD of every NEW show (2018 and onward). However, this would be very time-sensitive. These would need to go up within hours/next day, or I wouldn't have as much interest in them.

Continue the Live Trax series with everything older.

If they release all the shows, they lose their special quality. I love Dead and CO releasing all their shows, but they are truly different every night. The last 7 or 8 years DMB songs don't vary enough nightly that I want to hear 41 versions of You and Me or DDTW. Every show still has stellar moments for sure, but releasing a handful a year highlights what those moments are. I spend more time with the show as well as opposed to having 50 at my finger tips that I scan over.

    I agree.
They have been doing LTs smartly. They still really don’t have that many songs in their catalog to release every show, and really, it’s about 10-15 shows that people haggle DMB for, not enough to be selling unmixed SBDs for. After that, it’s simply people wanting shows they attended released.
