Agree with this, on the most part. It's kind of a self-fulfilling prophecy. Not saying that if we all banded together and uniformly suggested MM that it would
definitely move the needle but why shoot ourselves in the collective foot before we even get our shot? I think Wayne Gretsky (or is it Brady?) has a quote about that.
That said, DMB has a huge fanbase. And the logical way that the team will go about aggregating results is just throwing them into a spreadsheet and ranking on frequency. No idea how the video explanations will inform those decisions but seems like that's just a fun way to get people involved and feel like they have more of a say.
Just ballparking here but, for example, there were 14,334 submissions to the Mercy music video in 2012 (source: DMB page on FB after some internet digging). Using that as a (probably misguided) benchmark, let's say (very liberally) that Ants represented 5% of those. That's ~717. Even if those figures hold constant for this round of voting (they won't) with upwards to 750 votes for MM (wouldn't happen, or anywhere close to it) that still leads to ~13,617 votes for everything else. Of that, MM is up against Crash, Ants, Y&M, #41, Grey Street, and we'll say Billies. And then the rest of the catalog. While the volume of the catalog works in our favor to dilute votes for any one song, the dMb Family will still show up en masse. And for almost definitely 100% of the non-Ants of the world, MM isn't even in the consideration set.
My point that no one asked for? Unclear. But even with total solidarity (of those actually motivated to take the time to submit), I guess I'm saying that MM wouldn't even show up as a blip on the pie chart of recommendations and make it to Dave's standing desk for consideration. He'll get the top 15 receiving votes and make a call based on a) whatever the hell he wants to play and b) a few of the top votes-receiving tunes to satisfy the ask.
So: get out there and vote, Ants!
