How do you vote in this? Do you have to be a Sirius XM subscriber? My vote goes to Monkey Man. So then hopefully he has it fresh on his mind to attempt a full band play during summer ‘21.

He’s just going to pick stuff he’s comfortable with. It’s not going to be a Setlist with a bunch of rare stuff.

He might pull out GGT or Shotgun. But it won’t get any more rare than that

    1. You should take into account the acoustic nature of this. Is he really going to bust out monkey man acoustic? Similarly, he ain't touching songs like YNK and Last Stop that are traditionally "band" songs, and he's probably not touching songs where has hasn't gone solo in a long time, such as cry freedom, pig, halloween, minarets, etc.

    2. Dave is highly unlikely to go back and learn a song that is particularly difficult to play on guitar unless it were for a tour as opposed to a one-off. That probably eliminates songs like Captain (try that hand stretch without grimacing in pain), Let You Down, JTR, Shotgun, etc.

    3. Dave is not going to go into rarified air or "never played" territory. Spotlight would make total sense for something like this (fairly easy chords, extremely rare, Dave could re-learn it in 15 minutes if he wanted) but no way in hell. People People doesn't even have guitar. Very unlikely he's touching super old covers like Me & Julio. Dave had a chance to recognize the Batson Sessions in 2019 and didn't go there (other than previous songs played live) so just super unlikely to go there now.

So why waste this opportunity going for songs where Dave will just laugh it off? The following songs I think actually have a shot in hell (that we would actually want to hear): 40, blue water, Spoon, dodo, PFWYG, Beach Ball, Raven, Dive In.

    My prediction is as follows:

    Don't Drink the Water
    Spoon
    The Stone
    Crash
    40
    Tripping Billies
    Grey Street
    Ants Marching
Let You Down chords are super easy, and the whole song just repeats them for the most part. I haven’t played it in at least 6 months and could pick a guitar rn and play the whole thing through lol

How did Cigarette Lit leak again? I’m dumbfounded it could’ve otherwise sat in the vault and not have been known to us. Really makes me curious what else is in there.

Just submitted my entry for Shotgun. Told my story about the 2012 Camden tour debut as a result of my Shotgun poster (included in the video lol). Fingers crossed.

I think we really overstate the pull this board has on the broader DMB audience. I know its your hope, but that is nowhere near what will be played and I think you know that. Lets re-set expectations, this is close to what we will get:

    Grey Street
    Crush
    Bartender
    Stay or Leave
    So Damn Lucky
    Two Step
    Ants Marching
    Save Me
    Dancing Nancies
    You and Me
    All Along the Watchtower

This line provides the frame of reference for the lyrics/narrative and gives the song its title. It's classic stream of consciousness Dave and fits perfectly with that era of songwriting for him. And it rhymes

    What's not to love?

We definitely overestimate the board's pull/percentage of the fan base, but I do hope Dave throws people a bone or two during this.

For the two Verizon "full set" shows he played:

    So Damn Lucky
    Mercy
    Dancing Nancies
    Virginia in the Rain
    Grey Street
    Shadows on the Wall (x2)
    Sweet
    Don't Drink The Water
    Save Me
    Bartender
    Satellite
    Little Red Bird
    Rye Whiskey
    What Would You Say
    Come Tomorrow
    Stay or Leave
    Crush

For the Sirius Garage solo show last year, he played a few of the above, plus:

    Oh
    Gravedigger
    Samurai Cop
    Funny How Time Slips Away
    You & Me
    Do You Remember
    I'll Back You Up
    Grey Street

We don't hear a lot of Dave solo "full shows," so I'm sure we'll get at least a few of the above 25 songs again, but hopefully 1-2 surprises too.

Unfortunately the lack of unity from the hardcore community here is likely to produce a fruitless effort. I'd be surprised by any surprises. If only we could have all banded together on Monkey Man.

Agree with this, on the most part. It's kind of a self-fulfilling prophecy. Not saying that if we all banded together and uniformly suggested MM that it would definitely move the needle but why shoot ourselves in the collective foot before we even get our shot? I think Wayne Gretsky (or is it Brady?) has a quote about that.

That said, DMB has a huge fanbase. And the logical way that the team will go about aggregating results is just throwing them into a spreadsheet and ranking on frequency. No idea how the video explanations will inform those decisions but seems like that's just a fun way to get people involved and feel like they have more of a say.

Just ballparking here but, for example, there were 14,334 submissions to the Mercy music video in 2012 (source: DMB page on FB after some internet digging). Using that as a (probably misguided) benchmark, let's say (very liberally) that Ants represented 5% of those. That's ~717. Even if those figures hold constant for this round of voting (they won't) with upwards to 750 votes for MM (wouldn't happen, or anywhere close to it) that still leads to ~13,617 votes for everything else. Of that, MM is up against Crash, Ants, Y&M, #41, Grey Street, and we'll say Billies. And then the rest of the catalog. While the volume of the catalog works in our favor to dilute votes for any one song, the dMb Family will still show up en masse. And for almost definitely 100% of the non-Ants of the world, MM isn't even in the consideration set.

My point that no one asked for? Unclear. But even with total solidarity (of those actually motivated to take the time to submit), I guess I'm saying that MM wouldn't even show up as a blip on the pie chart of recommendations and make it to Dave's standing desk for consideration. He'll get the top 15 receiving votes and make a call based on a) whatever the hell he wants to play and b) a few of the top votes-receiving tunes to satisfy the ask.

So: get out there and vote, Ants!
