When I saw that video I freaked out because the first person in it requesting Idea of You is one of my best friends from when we were kids and have been to a bunch of shows together. Then the second person is also someone I know and have been to a few shows with. It turns out that the first person's sister made the video for Sirius and needed people for the ad. The fact I wasn't included hurt me.

"Hey Dave, Pat from Chicago, honestly play whatever you want, but can you make Jimi Thing 13:00 minutes again and not play 3 covers during it? OK thanks!"

Can’t believe Dave is actually doing this.

He’s always been “Mr. I won’t play a song unless I’m feeling it” guy, which I respect.

But I guess like others have already said, he’ll just play the songs he wants to (“I hope I have a good time tonight”) and the “judges” will find videos of requests for those songs. Lame.

I’ll be really surprised if we actually get a deep cut/never before played solo song.

This will have much oversight by Dave himself. Expect a lot of “omg Dave hiii I’m dying to hear cornbread/grey street/you and me/don’t drink/satellite

My view of this is Dave will throw in one or two "rare" songs because you simply can't have something this formal and just hit everyone up with you & me, crash, mercy etc. However, for people participating, here's how I see this working out in Dave's head:

1. You should take into account the acoustic nature of this. Is he really going to bust out monkey man acoustic? Similarly, he ain't touching songs like YNK and Last Stop that are traditionally "band" songs, and he's probably not touching songs where has hasn't gone solo in a long time, such as cry freedom, pig, halloween, minarets, etc.

2. Dave is highly unlikely to go back and learn a song that is particularly difficult to play on guitar unless it were for a tour as opposed to a one-off. That probably eliminates songs like Captain (try that hand stretch without grimacing in pain), Let You Down, JTR, Shotgun, etc.

3. Dave is not going to go into rarified air or "never played" territory. Spotlight would make total sense for something like this (fairly easy chords, extremely rare, Dave could re-learn it in 15 minutes if he wanted) but no way in hell. People People doesn't even have guitar. Very unlikely he's touching super old covers like Me & Julio. Dave had a chance to recognize the Batson Sessions in 2019 and didn't go there (other than previous songs played live) so just super unlikely to go there now.

So why waste this opportunity going for songs where Dave will just laugh it off? The following songs I think actually have a shot in hell (that we would actually want to hear): 40, blue water, Spoon, dodo, PFWYG, Beach Ball, Raven, Dive In.

My prediction is as follows:

Exactly. Anyone who thinks they're getting anything besides a couple semi-rare songs is kidding themselves. We're not getting a world premiere of an old song. He isn't going to choose this time to bring out Monkey Man or Cigarette Lit.

I imagined Sirius would get a bunch of requests for rare/not-happening tunes, so I went another route in order to actually get picked. I requested Do You Remember - it's obviously a song that Dave would have no problem playing, and would enjoy to...and the song actually has meant more to me recently than in the past (in terms of the pandemic). BUT...sending an email of a 30-second video was almost impossible; no programs seemed to allow that file size. So I ended up sending a Dropbox link - no idea if they'll accept that.
