It's the reason some think high school football might be gone in 20 years. Those fears aren't applied to any other high school sport.
Obviously you can't prevent them from getting hurt. The football argument goes way beyond sports. You're talking about your child's long term mental health. In addition to the damage that just comes from playing the game. Many concussions in high school football go undiagnosed. Kids play with them amplifying the damage.
The damage from sub-concussive football hits will add to the chances he gets a concussion. It could happen in the baseball game, but will likely be a direct result from playing football.
Head injuries in baseball are usually an isolated incident. If it happens it's unfortunate, but the risk is low enough that you can live with it. Understand in football your brain is getting damaged to some degree no matter how much padding or helmets you use.
I just wish we could talk about this topic without evoking other sports. The risk and dangers are completely different.

I just don't see that happening. I don't see states like Texas, Georgia, Florida, California, LA, Ohio, and Pennsylvania where HS Football is king, just shutting down this cash cow. Until kids start dying in each game, it will continue. It's dangerous, yes, but no one puts a gun to these kids heads to play. They love the sport.
They are, but how else am I supposed to compare them? I'll answer your question without comparing it to another sport. I will let me kid play football if he wants. Because, I want him to experience the great game of football. That's why. I realize all the dangers and everything and will still let them play. I want my kid to experience youth sports.
I played football one year and played baseball from age 6-18 and I can say there is nothing like playing in a football game. Baseball is my favorite sport, but football is just something special.
Again, not trying to argue with anybody, just trying to answer your question.
