I find it makes me make better choices throughout the day if i start out healthy. I may take some of the whole 30 recipes she sent and make those for dinner with my morning protein shake + add the gallon of water back in and see how it goes. I'll also try to switch from beer to a mixed drink for a few weeks. I just love beer though!
Protein shake is good but you do want actual food for breakfast.... in fact your breakfast should be the highest caloric intake of the day (unless are you working out hardcore at night)

Tapering off your calorie intake as the day progresses slows you down, obviously... food = fuel. Try not to eat carbs or anything high on the glycemic index after 6pm. If you eat later than that, just try to make sure its high in protein and lean. I am typically a late eater and always went to the gym from 5:30 - 6:30pm. Dinner at 8pm wasn't ideal but always made sure it was salad/lean protein.

The whole reason for tapering off is because you should be able to fall asleep easier. Weigh loss and 4 hours sleep doesn't happen.

As far as drinking... meh, beer you want to stay away from unfortunately. As far as cocktails, if you are drinking something like vodka/cran... do a vodka and club soda with a splash of cran instead. Taking the lesser of two evils goes a long way. Whenever I had a cheat meal or drank, i always tried to make it "a little healthier"... get the filet instead of the ribeye, for example.

Didn't touch upon breakfast in that last post but... eggs, a little oatmeal is good... please don't do just egg whites. Have at least 1 or two yolks... good fat, tone of nutrients, half the protein of the egg is in the yolk, good cholesterol. Biggest myth on this planet is that egg yolks are bad for you. Steel cut oats are great, if you aren't crazy about it, toss a teaspoon of peanut butter in it, its absolutely delicious. a slice of bacon or two doesn't hurt either...

Also.... take 1 or 2 fish oil/omega 3 pills each day, preferably before a meal. Many health benefits. There are many types of fat in your diet that you need to help you lose weight. When you eat zero fat, your body pretty much says "fuck i need to conserve fat since I'm not getting any"

Interesting. I definitely don't do that with breakfast. I eat a banana, a Greek yogurt and put some granola in the yogurt... So it's probably 200 calories. 250 at the most.

Everyone is different. If your goals are to lose a considerable amount of weight, the best thing to do is eat a big breakfast, high in protien, moderate in carbs. Its a good base for each day. When i was losing weight i was doing about 500 calories for breakfast... couple eggs, a protein shake, and oats.

Obviously throwing a banana in the mix (was usually in my shake) and having granola/yogurt definitely isn't bad at all. Again, depending on what your goal is will determine what you should be having

Greek yogurt/cottage cheese for me was a night time snack. Filling, slow digesting protein. Cottage cheese with a little drizzle of real maple syrup over it, surprisingly delicious.

Also, smoothies would be great in the morning as well. You can add an egg or two, some decent protein powder, kale/spinach, and a handful of fruit and make a really good smoothie.

Yeah, ethaning peaks around the ticket lottery. Then again when confirmations go out. Then it really picks up as the shows get closer and tickets become more 'fun' to find. Wonder if we can do like a 50 Shades of Ethaning?

Slothing is pretty much the same all year, we all eat and like to talk about what we eat. Plus, that increases our post count and builds up page after page of non-sense for people to sift through to find any real information.

    DOH!
Been good to read your posts, some very insightful information. I am the first to admit, I do not eat well. I do have a solid breakfast, lunch is pretty much always the same (sandwich, fruit, chips, cheese, water), then dinner can vary depending on if we make dinner, get delivery or go out. Last night for instance, dinner was 2 pints of Cigar City beer, mozzarella sticks, chicken fingers and fries. Tonight will be the exact opposite for dinner, quinoa dish with fresh vegetables and chicken. Oh, and regardless on if we stay in or go out, beer is usually part of the meal.

Now, before you freak out and say 'dude, you are walking heart attack', I run on average 35-40 miles per week. Do I use my running as an excuse for my shitty diet, yes. Do I need to be better about what I eat, yes. I am getting older, so even with running, I fully acknowledge that it will not cure all the ailments or stave off dietary issues.

But until that time, I will continue to sloth, drink good beer and be damn proud of it.

Yeah it's really nice here. I'm in southern FL on the gulf coast side. Houston is warm right now too, but there isn't a nice beach nearby, so I'm happy to be here.

So since Sept I'm down 17. Down 10 officially since the 3 months check in between my doc visits from 10/11 - 1/11.

The downsizing of the alcohol thing for me is just because I'm focusing on the working out thing, or trying to.

Breakfast, breakfast, breakfast. So important! Still trying to get it all right... it'll take about 5 years or so. Not to mention I have SOOOOO SOOOO SOOOOO MANY LBS TO LOSE BUT WHATEVER. I'm down what, almost 70 in just over 2 years. Slooooow but at least it's staying.
