Stage Setup

Based on Instagram rehearsal pics, looks like same setup from 2019. This is unusual. Thoughts?

    Re: Stage Setup

A global pandemic has disrupted supply chains (and a whole lot of other stuff) so sticking with a set up they already had was probably much easier than hoping to order and receive new gear in short order. Everything about the live entertainment business the past 18 months is unusual. Live entertainment is getting back up and running with whatever they have.

Who the hell cares? DMB takes the stage for the first time in a year and a half tomorrow night. As long as there are lights so we can see what else matters?

Didn't we get the Crystal geo-shape screen a couple years in a row, or is that what we're getting again?

You mean the screen that looks like a butthole? No, that was 2018 fortunately. 2019's rig was a huge improvement.

Agree but also found it odd that they still had the stuff and hadn’t returned it prior

The band doesn't own that gear. The production company they hire does. Production companies keep that gear for a long time, use it for multiple productions (bands) in multiple different configurations.

True, but Filament Productions (who DMB uses) was founded by Fenton, who does every tours overall design and every shows lighting and has been with the band since the start. So whatever the band wants they get.

This is likely a still picking up the pieces and supply chain issues on the tail end of the pandemic. I’ll take a tour first and a new stage design #153637

That’s my point, wouldn’t they have retuned the 19 set up to the production company and had a new design set for 20 prior to cancelling??

With the uncertainty of the current touring climate it didn't make sense to add additional up front costs to this year's touring cycle. New lighting and video configurations require custom fabricated parts, new parts, programming time, etc which all cost money BEFORE shows make money. It made more sense to re-use the 2019 setup, which is still a phenomenal design, and get back out on the road.

Guys. Isn’t it weird that the Road Crew has been to only one show? Discuss.

Agree that 2019 was a phenomenal design and still is. Not upset a bit to see it out there again.

Stage looks amazing this year. Love the lighting rig.

Hopefully bits don’t disappear after a few shows (like the curtain).

the curtain was taken away because they had so many issues with it. they don't take stuff away when it works. some venues have smaller stages and they can't fit all of the equipment, but other than that, they don't change it.
