Re: In need of some golf tips...

Damn, sounds like a really good match. And obviously 74 is a great score.

I messed myself up in my kickball championship last night (yes, I play rec kickball...) and not sure I'll get a round in this week. Probably not worth sliding into 3rd, but hey, almost mounted a 4 run bottom of the last inning comeback to win.

Just super frustrating to play 4 holes really well (I was -1 on that stretch with a birdie and 3 good pars) and still lost a ton of ground.

Can't be upset about losing to a + handicap, I suppose. Would have been fun to win, nonetheless.
Well played. I'll disagree in that I love match play and it gives you the best chance to beat a better player.

Nice match. I've never been a fan of match play either, but it's fun every now and then.

I ordered Titleist T300 irons in May. Still haven't gotten them yet. The Titleist rep emailed my buddy that fitted me and said they are rolling out the new versions of their irons and anyone with outstanding orders, can get an upgrade to the new version for no additional cost and they will arrive a week earlier. Of course I said yes.

I'm getting out Friday morning at 6:50. Played 9 before work last Friday, first time swinging a club in three weeks so things were a little rusty. Hoping I don't suck!

Don't know when I'll get out next. Should be Sunday, but it looks like a wash out at this point.

Considering he was doing the same things for a long time and seen by the same mods repeatedly I'm not sure if he did something specific that got him banned, if he did something specific I don't know what that is, so yes really

I was just basing it on his last posts, he got into it with Ramie over the NC State thing, apparently some pm’s were sent, now Muskie is gone. His last handful of Prompter posts seemed pretty tame.

Any suggestions for NYC and the NJ area right across the Hudson? Obviously there's nothing on Manhattan and we won't have a car.

https://www.pelhamsplitrock.com/ and https://www.clearviewparkgc.com/ are the only ones I've played in the "immediate" area, and they aint great. There's nothing close on the NJ side of the river.

It's not super realistic to play out of NYC unless you're hopping on a train out to LI, or up to CT to play, or have access to a car to drive elsewhere. You really need to get 20+ miles out of Manhattan to play.

That's what I figured. There was a 9-hole course in NJ called Skyway that looked kinda cool. It was just north of Liberty National. We might try Forest Hills on the way back to LGA. Last year they played a pitch and putt by the airport.

91 (48/43) today. Everything was decent but nothing was great. Hit a drive 305 which was nice, burned so many edges putting too so could have been like 88 with a little more luck. Oh well.

Playing Great River up in Milford tomorrow which is gonna be a real treat.

Awesome! It took me 12 weeks to get my Mizuno JPX921 Forged.

Those Titleist T300 irons are sick. I hit the T100s in my club fitting and it came down to those, the TaylorMade P770s and the Mizuno JPX921 Forged or Tour. All gorgeous irons.

I feel you Steng. The 43 on the back is a nice recovery. Best of luck tomorrow.

Thanks dude. Been hitting the ball a lot more consistently this year. Even as recently as last spring I would have rounds where it was like I literally had never swung a club before which was super frustrating. Now I feel like I'm at least at the point where, even if I can only play once every 1-3 weeks, I know I'll shoot between like an 86 and a 94 pretty reliably. Of course I'd like to be able to practice and play more, but for my situation, I really can't complain. I'm "good enough" to not be embarrassing, which is far more than I used to be able to say

    You getting out this weekend?

Believe me, I still have days where I look like I've never held a club before (like last week). But that's one of the things that keeps bringing us back, knowing we can play better.

I think we all would like to play more. I'd play every day if I could.

Just my regular Sunday round, as long as the weather holds.

Playing in my club championship this weekend. One round on each course. I've never played in a tournament before. Not that nervous, because I have no expectations of winning my flight.

Nice dude, good luck! Our first round is August 8. I too have minimal expectations, but the guy I'm going up against is a 13 HC and I'm a 14, so I will definitely have a chance if I play well.

What would really suck is getting to the finals and not being able to play, as we are going on vacation on September 30 which I think is the weekend the finals will be.

Tournaments are fun, man. Just remember it's only golf. And everyone puts on their pants one leg at a time just like you. No one is Superman.

Play your game, ignore what others are doing. It's you vs. the course, not you vs. them.

We used to do a match play tourney at the course I work at. You'd played 9 holes to set a handicap. My dumbass shot 35 (-1) for the first time in my life when I was qualifying. I had to play off a 0. They were nine hole matches. I managed to make it to the final four. Didn't play for three or four weeks, then had to give an old guy 12 strokes over nine holes. Got beat on #7. Still mad about that 12 years later.

I have two concerns. Hitting a ground ball off the tee and rules. I'm not great on rules.

There's a USGA app that's super handy. Download that.

My favorite swing thought if I'm just worried about making decent contact off the tee was one I heard from a PGA teaching pro in a Golf Digest video (can't remember who). Anyway, it's to just imagine a nail is sticking out of the back of the ball and all you're trying to do is drive that nail straight into the ball.

Edit: Dumb visualization but this is the thought: https://www.golfwrx.com/wp-content/u...l-dowsized.jpg

Think of that thing as sticking slightly out the back and you're trying to drive it straight into the ball.

89 today from the blues at a really tough private course. I hit a drive that went 335 which was pretty fucking awesome. Everything clicked for me today, just a few errant shots and one penalty kept me from a really special type of round.
