Re: 2022 Setlist Game / Chat Thread

On one hand, we should be happy/thankful they are on year 30 and still doing full blown summer tours. Think of all the great bands from the 90s and aughts that are either completely done or just do a few concerts per year (with very limited setlists). Dave is old, like a few years from retirement/social security old. He is still going out there and pouring energy and passion into his performances.

On the other hand, DMB has such a massive catalog, with so many songs that really made them what they are today. Is it really that hard to play some of those more consistently?

I try to limit my complaining and be thankful that I'm still seeing full DMB sets in 2022. But...when those first few chords of Sledgehammer hit...I forget all the thoughts I just typed out and start booing.

I don't know.

Yea they got a pass in 2021 because we didn't have shows in 2020 and we were all grateful to have a tour again but here we are in 2022 and it's like what is the purpose of this tour? This should have an album tour and they clearly aren't even close on that so it's "hey pay $150 to see what we've been doing since 2018 all over again!"

Not going to quote all above, but I'm flying to Jacksonville on Monday and not as excited as I'd normally be for a two-nighter, especially for the ticket prices of the Jacksonville shows.

This set tonight was bleh. -6 for me

I know most were/are glad Boyd is gone, and Buddy seems to be generally well thought of, but I think I miss Boyd and the violin more than I previously realized, or at least wanted to admit. Add in the lesser quality with the previous two albums and somewhat stale setlist the last few years and I am questioning for the first time really if I want to keep the tickets I bought this year. Haven't voluntarily missed Alpine since I first started going in 2008. Plus, absolutely crazy that we still have Covid to potentially throw a wrench into things (regarding log-distance travel). Anyway, still love the band.

I was exaggerating, I couldn't imagine booing at a concert, let alone booing my favorite band. If I'm at the show, I either pee or I sigh for a few seconds...then start singing and dancing. If I'm at home listening, I just mute it.

Re: 2022 Setlist Game / Chat Thread

So where are people actually at on unique songs played in a tour? Is it important? '21 had more but is "inflated" by songs that popped up on the tour but only got a few plays. Here is a fun list of songs that got 1 or 2 plays:

Broken Things, Raven, Sugar Will, Rhyme & Reason, Halloween, Recently, The Riff, The Last Stop, Captain.

Meanwhile this year the bust outs so far seem to be staying in better rotation: Break Free, MME (came out late last year), Break for It, Shotgun, Dreaming Tree, Stolen Away. So if you want to hear these songs that have come back after all these years better chance you'll hear them at your stops.

People need to make up their mind if they care about unique number of songs in a tour or not. Does having that list of songs that were played 1-2 times at shows you probably weren't at in '21 make you feel better?

Well they don't even play that song anymore so you don't need to worry about that.

Look at all the songs that sound like shit now or are a shell of what they were when the band had a violin.

Dave technically likely still has COVID. I’m not judging this show on the usual level.
That being said, I agree with some sentiments here about the slow drip of TDs and great songs compared to 2021. They don’t seem as into this year vs last. It really feels like this tour was intended to be an album tour, then unexpectedly wasn’t, and they’re just kind of winging it. I feel like the full 2 weeks of rehearsal last year helped a lot to start the tour off with lots of consistent bustouts.

    Agreed

You post at the other DMB site a lot don't you? I recognize your name over there when I browse. To be as PC as possible, those people are a certain type of "special" over there.

Just do a search for the word "skreeing" in posts here, and you'll see lots of frustration in many different threads.

Seems like people were treated to lots of "skreeing" on the violin or Boyd being muted to avoid that auditory assault in the mix.

From what I can gather, it wasn't just fans who were frustrated. I've inferred that band members, including Dave, found Boyd to be the weakest link in the chain in terms of professional behavior.

I've definitely never heard it before, or seen it listed on the almanac. Jeff should bring some more Flecktones riffs into DMB

No idea what I'm doing at this point. Going completely crazy with 22 songs. Probably a bad move. You're better off picking half of these songs and then pick any 10 songs not in my list:

    One Sweet World
    Warehouse
    Where Are You Going
    Funny The Way It Is
    Sweet
    Crush
    Jimi Thing
    Granny
    So Damn Lucky
    Thank You
    Break Free
    So Much to Say >>
    Anyone Seen the Bridge >>
    Too Much
    Dancing Nancies
    Break For It
    Walk Around the Moon
    She
    Two Step
    You Might Die Trying
    -----------
    Time Bomb
    Why I Am

Last nights shotgun sounds way better than Austin version.they clearly cleaned it up. Dave way more comfortable "filling" that space in the song. It will stick around I think. Sure is great that these great songs have re-emerged in '22.

Only early June and they will eventually break out stone, pig, bartender, recently etc. We usually see those as we approach the deer creek, alpine, spac venues.

I expect Blossom to see a good show.
