Re: 2022 Setlist Game / Chat Thread

Those songs shouldn’t have to be “broken out” at just those venues. There’s 0 reason why all of those songs shouldn’t be played across the 4 Charleston and Jacksonville shows.

Instead, we will just get the standard show full of Funny’s Sledgehammers and You and Mes with a random bone thrown in (Shotgun I guess last night).

Let’s hope it stays that way.

We will see how many times it’s played by the end of the tour. And you know what I mean bowa36

As it often does. I’d wager 50% or more of the crowd that cheers so loudly actually think it’s a DMB song

I don't mean to be a jerk, but perhaps you can explain why they should stop playing a song that gets the loudest (or one of the loudest) reactions from the crowd? Because it's not their song? They're clearly not playing for the tiny group of fans who still post on fan site message boards (or at least not this one).

And frankly, we don't have the numbers any longer to make up a significant enough percentage of the crowd to demand sets filled with rarities like Blue Water, I'll Back You Up, #34, and PFWYG.

We can bitch all we want, but what the band is doing now makes perfect sense. We can accept it, move on to a new band/hobby, or sit here and bitch. Only two of those options make any sense to me.

Because Dave can’t sing it and it doesn’t sound good. We will just start there.

The rarities you named aren’t even what I’m talking about though…those type of songs aren’t even remotely comparable in this scenario.

Instead of Sledgehammer play Pig, Last Stop, Rhyme and Reason, BOWA, Recently, Typical, So Right, hell even a song like American Baby. Those will still get big crowd reactions, singalongs, and they’re actually THEIR songs that everyone loves.

If he couldn't sing it and it didn't sound good, it wouldn't consistently get such a great reaction.

They played Rapunzel, #41, Seek Up, DDTW, WWYS, Shotgun, Grey Street, Ants, and Watchtower last night, and Sledge still got as big if not bigger reactions than those. Seems like they're making a wise decision by keeping it in the rotation. I too am not a huge fan of covers when they have so many of their own songs, but he's clearly giving the people what they want.

Would I have written the setlist the same way? Heck no. But everyone around me in the PIT last night was having a great time. I didn't hear any complaints. The people in the Charleston show thread all seemed to comment on what a great show it was as well.

It's a famous song and people react accordingly, that doesn't mean it's a good pick for his voice, Sledgehammer was a rough vocal performance sandwiched by songs he sounded far stronger on.

Sledge gets a reaction bc it's loud, upbeat and now he dances around and it gets people into a frenzy. I agree it sounds like shit at this point but it's a song to get people up and the crowd into it so I see it going nowhere.

People go crazy for Seven too. They could not care less if Dave can sing the song or not. Does he dance like only Dave can dance, shake his ass, point around, act crazy, and make really loud noises? EPIC SONG!

Didn’t pick a single tour debut but also left out Time Bomb, The Maker, When The World Ends, Granny, She, Where Are You Going, and Seven so I’m sure they’ll all get played…

    1. One Sweet World
    2. So Much To Say
    3. Anyone Seen The Bridge
    4. Too Much
    5. Funny The Way It Is
    6. Break For It
    7. The Only Thing
    8. Crush
    9. Can’t Stop
    10. Jimi Thing
    11. Walk Around The Moon
    12. Tripping Billies
    13. The Dreaming Tree
    14. Samurai Cop
    15. So Damn Lucky
    16. Dancing Nancies
    17. Warehouse
    18. Grace Is Gone
    19. You Might Die Trying
    20. Why I Am
    21. Two Step

I’d have this at +14 w/ Funny and Cant Stop as the only -1’s for me personally.

I wasn’t happy when Boyd left

Roi and then Boyd. Massive parts of what made DMB great. I still think the band would be way better if rashawn left. I know it’ll never happen but his spot takes away from Jeff. Jeff is non existent and it sucks.

^ agreed. There are parts of the One Sweet World intro that Jeff never manages to get right. Crush is another example. Love Jeff, but some things are long gone, like having a violin on Two Step or Nancies :/

edit: what's going on with the site? it is insanely slow to post

No repeats tonight. If there is for whatever reason, it'll be one at most.

Cool. Hoping for a fresh batch. I dug last night's setlist for the most part, but I was definitely surprised at no Warehouse or Nancies. Hoping for some golden oldies tonight.

If there is a repeat it will be Madman's eyes. But I don't think even that will be played again tonight.

Sledgehammer was played 14 times in the beloved '21 tour. At its current pace of how many times its been played in the '22 shows it will be played 10 times in '22. People have also complained acting like SMLAM is going to pop ruin shows but in reality still hasn't been played. People just keep making up a fake boogeyman for the '22 tour.
