Yes - so talking about 113 unique songs has to come with a caveat, doesn’t it?

So ZBB wouldnt qualify.

However Phish this tour played like 40 cover songs it looks like, and theyve been around longer than DMB

But they played 208 unique songs! and are so much more diverse than DMB according to this site
Still leaves 160ish unique non covers…

My point was less about making comparisons on who did it best, and more that A) it’s not unheard of or we aren’t spoiled by this more than other bands (we’ve named 2 of their era peers who have pulled off pretty similar song counts) and B) there has to be a caveat on that 113.

I think the better comparison is to prior DMB tours - 2013 they played 111 unique songs and 8 were covers. The catalog has expanded by 15-20 original DMB songs since then.

If they played 40 covers out of the 209 songs played, that's still 169 original songs over 25 shows.

It doesn't matter how many song they play if they only play a few songs 2-3 times a tour and others 20-30 times a tour. Typical, Captain, Raven, Stone, BOWA, Recently are songs that should be getting 10-15 plays a tour, not 2-3.

"How many bands in year 30 play 16 cover songs in a tour?"

Answer: Phish, and they play more.

Pearl jam in 2018, when they last had an actual tour, had over 30 covers in 2018 in 25 shows

Oh never mind, i think i figured this site out.

Looks like Phish played like 40 cover songs this year....

And they’re mostly awesome, just like most of DMB’s covers.

I just didn’t want to see all those TD covers at Gorge. Especially Dave solo…..

I've never been a cover complainer but it was wild that Dave chose to not play his own songs during the Dave solo portions of those shows. Had a blast and those songs sounded great, but.... come on

Ok, let’s take out covers then. DMB doesn’t hit 100 and Phish hits nearly 170 in 12 fewer shows. So if your take is gonna be that they “are so much more diverse than DMB according to this site”, then sure but it’s not according to Ants. It’s according to facts…

And as TS#s and I both said last night, those numbers mean nothing if you aren’t playing good songs and playing good songs consistently

No my point is this site has a weird obsession of phish.

People discredit DMB for playing Covers in a tour, yet here are Phish and Pearl Jam who have played more- and people just ignore this. Seems to me this isnt exclusive to DMB.... Bands play covers- and in fact all of DMB's covers are great songs

Exactly. It was just…odd. Idk how else to put it. I figured he’d do more of the YNK and BOWA solo stuff as a little treat and less of the Rye Whiskey and TMTT stuff that literally no one was pining to see.

Yes, the frequency of play of certain DMB tunes is consistently high and others consistently low. To what end? If one thinks it's about rare = special then one'd have to apply the same logic the other way, lots of plays = shit.

But as you (Bruce) pointed out earlier, they play some AMAZING and special tunes with great regularity...along with the various tunes that many of find mediocre or even bad. Sure plenty of folks think Grey Street is overplayed, but damn if in its complete form it still isn't among their best songs, along with Warehouse and other regular or frequent plays.

I hope they mix up the pool regular/frequent plays with the new material on the next tour...

To use the Avetts again, they often only do certain covers once. They always pull out at least one when a musical hero passes for a show as well, be it Chris Cornell or Jerry Jeff Walker, among others. Very few covers are regular plays or even played more than a handful of times.

Like DMB though, I'd rather hear their songs.

    the (2021) summer so far

Apparently that Arkansas show last Wednesday was the hell of a show. This is what our fellow Adam said about that on Carter’s fan page:

    https://images2.imgbox.com/c4/6c/GJVw9jsc_o.jpeg

There is a Mark Terrell torrent of what has been defined “the Great Storm in Rogers” show, which has been recorded under severe weather condition, here:
