I think a double announcement (tour and new album) seems most likely. Tour info usually gets announced in January right? Maybe tour starts late april/early May and the album release date coincides with that.

tour dates typically are around late jan/feb. summer tours usually start mid/late may. they could add a few weeks of indoor shows in areas they don't normally play. but i think covid will still have a big impact on where they end up playing and when. hopefully things settle down, but who knows what will happen at this point. i can see them just planning for a normal summer tour and not really add anything any earlier than they normally would so they can just play outside.

I'm thinking something like the 2019 tour (starting 4/30)

"We recorded some music late last year. We all went in individually...of course the horn section, me and Rashawn Ross, went in together, into Virginia. And so there's gonna be a new record coming out next year with the band...and it sounds awesome."

He did not mention "early" next year.

It was a Friday weekly football "pick game" segment, where the hosts bring on a few people on the phone lines (the guest, plus the sponsor of the segment). The radio host said "we'll have Phillip pick for Jeff 'cause Jeff doesn't know squat about football," and Jeff commented, "he's right about that!" lol

Jeff actually did pick games though...and he said that his past picks (from previous years) have been pretty good. Someone else on the line said "we need to find the record [of the previous picks]" and Jeff said "you do that, you find that record and you tell your fans what a badass I am."

i wouldnt read into it. he's not being asked to give detailed accounts of the process. they started working on it late last year. people know its a process that typically takes time to fully record. he doesn't need to spell it out on local sports talk radio.
