Good show last night! Had a lot of fun. That specific "turn" in the final 1/4 of the show starting with Why I Am that probably isn't the message board enthusiast's favorite, actually had the crowd extremely loud and rip roaring. And what a "whew" encore that was. Expected Sister>Shake Me, got Ocean>DDTW. I'll take it!

here are some nifty things for Riverbend last night

Songs never played there before: Walk Around the Moon, Ocean and the Butterfly

Only 3 repeats from 2019: Don't Drink, Bayou, Why I Am

First Time Since 2003: Grace Is Gone, Pig
First Time Since 2012: Squirm, You Never Know, Sweet
First Time Since 2015: Crush, Funny
First Time Since 2016: Seek Up, Grey Street

2nd Seek Up opener (last 2006)
2nd Grey Street set closer (last 2009)
    1st Don't Drink show closer

    2nd ever Sweet
    3rd ever Squirm, Pig, Grace

I havent backread so this might’ve already been stated, but as great as that show was with the energy and the amount of love and fervor everybody on stage had last night, I was expecting maybe unrealistically so, more of a unique set. I mean every single one of those songs are staples on this tour. I mean not a single came-out-of-nowhere tune. It was great to hear “you never know“tho; I’ve been searching for that my whole DMB life but beyond that I was very nonplussed….

Haven't backread but did it ever come out as to what happened to the person who fainted? Were they carried out, are they okay, what happened? Thanks.

I believe that all of us, at some level, are guilty of setlist watching. I did my very best ahead of my first shows this tour (The Gorge) to stay away from Ants and the Almanac, because I didn't want to know what had been in heavy rotation leading up to The Gorge...of course those 3 setlists had to be majorly rethought due to the alternate format anyway. Side note: do people know how hard it is to stay away from seeing setlists nowadays? Even without looking at Ants or the Almanac, they pop-up in my FB feed each week because of my liked/suggested pages! Wayyy difficult trying to steer clear of setlists/song discussions. Anyway I digress.

I see in your stats that you had two stops this tour: the opener in Raleigh, and Riverbend. If someone was able to tell you ahead of time that, between those two shows, you'd get to hear 34 unique songs, a song debut, and no covers (!), would you have been excited about that? You referenced your "whole DMB life" in your post, while at the same time being nonplussed about this tour stop with respect to the 2021 tour. But the entire 2021 tour doesn't exist in your DMB life, only how you've perceived the tour through sites like Ants and the Almanac. BTW I'm by no means coming down on you...like I said I believe we're all guilty of it to some degree. Think back to those first few years of your seeing the band in the early-00s (without organized internet setlist cataloging); was each show for you taken as an individual experience?

Sorry for the ramble reply post, but I've been ruminating on this recently. My sister-in-law asked my wife last week once she heard I was seeing the band for the 4th time this year (@ Pilgrimage Fest): "Why does he have to go see the same band so many times? What's wrong with him?" lol

That was probably one of the greatest one night stop set lists I’ve had in 77 shows

Just got to Cuyahoga, flying solo tonight. Let’s do it again!

Not directed at me, but I definitely agree with your sentiment. If you're looking for some crazy liberation or amazing guest, last night wouldn't have been for you. But as someone who has been loving the band for over 20 years now, I can say last night's show was just a lot of fun. When Dave was going on about how he liked the venue early in the night, I was kinda thinking we might get something crazy. But even the songs in the setlist that aren't might favorites were well executed. Really good energy.

There was a time in my life when not seeing something super unique was a bummer. But I've been to shows where the setlists looked great but the execution was poor. I'd rather take a "common" set list that's well performed at this point. I sang, I danced, and I had a good time. Did I get some of the unique stuff I got at Gorge this year? Certainly not. But did I have a hell of a good time? Indeed I did. Not a "best show I've ever seen" experience, but damn solid, IMO.

Seek Up, When The World Ends, Squirm, Sweet, Pig, You Never Know and Grace is Gone might be more regular in 2021 but those aren't songs I go into any summer expecting I'm going to see them at the shows I go to. Don't let their tour play count on the current summer tour take away from how cool it is to get them...and in 1 show even.

Yeah you make a lot of good points and I appreciate you being so thoughtful with your retort and response. A lot of it is me Setlist watching and being almost too aware of what I’m most likely going to be in store for. And that’s on me. In retrospect in a couple years, I might look back on the show last night and be like wow that was a pretty good one since I don’t play the song with this song or the song much anymore. And they did play really really well and we’re all very juice stop like they always are in my experience. But again I just wish they had played A tune or two that had been played and 2–3 weeks or longer. But maybe I’m just a spoiled fan.

PS - I see you’re from Nashville also, but man you are a trooper to spend those kind of prices to have gone to Pilgrimage. I had the means to do so but as a guy who’s been to a fair share of festival shows, paying those prices for a short set, I just couldn’t pull the trigger. Bet it was a good show tho.

Great show and the guys really seemed to be having fun playing together which was nice to see. The women who fainted ( my assumption) was on the rail right in front of Dave and he saw the whole situation unfold. Twice he yelled to the crew at stage left to get some help for her and the second time he was really really pissed. I saw Henry the drum tech and someone else begin to walk forward onto the stage to presumably go down into the photo /security pit section to assist but then they saw that medical personnel had finally arrived and they stepped back in the shadows.

Dave stayed off to the right side and once the woman was back on her feet and being assisted out of the pit, then the jamming stopped and he joined back in on Sweet.

On another note, I saw two late 20’s guys get in a long simmering verbal altercation about 6 rows back from Dave in the pit and that culminated with a headbut into the nose and blood all over the ground. Security & law enforcement got involved and both guys were escorted out. Nothing like an assault charge to go along with the poster and wristband from the show !!!

    Yeezse

I agree 100% with this post. Regardless if they've been played 7x+ on a tour, the fact that they are "new" on this tour and weren't played much at all in previous years is a huge bonus. I love all of those songs, but especially YNK which I have been dying to see more for a decade.

Of course. We are on a DMB fansite, that'd be expected. Even watching the DMB Couch Tour for every show of the tour, playing the setlist game every show, and seeing 10+ shows a tour, you have to be realistic of "what is a good setlist."

Yeaaahh I was on the fence for quite a while about Pilgrimage. I kept waiting for them to announce single-day passes like they had in years past. When it was evident that they weren't going to do that, I started checking facebook. Whenever the Pilgrimage account would post something, there would be a dozen or so people in the replies looking to sell their wristbands. I found someone selling theirs at about a 30% discount from face value, so I went for it. Especially since I was only able to attend Sunday, I certainly didn't want to pay face. I think I got my money's worth, with the other bands I saw on Sunday as well.

I've only been to 2 DMB festival shows (Beale St. in Memphis in '19 and then this year)...totally different experiences for me. In Memphis I was one of the first people through the gate and I ran for dead-center rail at the stage they'd be playing that evening; very cool for my first and only rail. This year I took it easy and sat way back from the stage where it was very chill and relaxed.

I gotta admit, the setlist game can be kind of addictive!
