So I do get groceries there pretty often, because one, its so much cheaper than the regular grocery store, and two, its just way closer than my regular grocery store.

But thats the only stuff I'll buy there.
This post brought the LOLz.

Reminds me of that southpark episode.

Thanks for all of the suggestions so far. I'm definitely going to be checking these out soon. I got The Dark Knight today, but I haven't had time to watch it yet. I can't wait

WHile you might not want to shop there, they do sell the Sony Blu-ray player at a decent price and the Magnavox player they sell has a Panasonic UniPhier chip inside it, so you're getting decent quality components where video processing is concerned...FWIW

Haven't read this whole topic so I'm not sure it's been mentioned or not, but you can play DVD's on a Blu-Ray player, right?

I'm kind of a n00b when it comes to Blu-Ray, so I don't know much about it.

    No you cannot.
You can only watch BluRays on a BluRay player.

However you can watch DVDs on a BluRay.

I picked up a 42" plasma tonight, and got the Blu-Ray player for free. It's going to be a good christmas morning for me.

I'm thinking my new wish list looks like this.

    Planet Earth (BBC)
Mad Men - cheaper than the DVD version for some reason.
    Dark Knight
    Godfather
    Radio City
    300
    Wall-E

I have actually never watched an episode, but everyone I know tells me I will love it. I might go rent the first disc before I have someone buy it for me.

Saving for a ring and an eventual marriage, I wish I could dump $3,000 in an HDTV, BluRay player and a bunch of discs. Sigh.

I guess I could talk the bride-to-be into putting a nice 52" LCD on our registry?

You would get a lot more use out the TV than the punch bowl and matching candle holders.

    That's what I'm saying!

We watched The Dark Knight this weekend on my buddy's 52" LCD 1080i BluRay setup - it was a nearly religious experience.

don't know if you remember, but we discussed this. my budget is like this:

me: hey i want to buy a killer 2.1 system for about $900. it will blow you away how great these blue rays will sound, and it will make everything sound great. lets do it!!!

girlfriend: ok, you can get that as long as we get new windows (about $4000), a new fridge (at least $1000) and a new dishwasher ($500).

    me: i hate you.

we really do need all that stuff, but i think if i get the windows i can buy the sound system. just have to prioritize, right now its not super high on the list. we'll see though, everything should be cheaper this year, so i'm hoping we can get the home stuff taken care of for cheaper than what i just quoted.

anything with cool scenery or great action will look great on bluray. i recommend kung fu movies, but i love them anyway so i may be biased. House of Flying Daggers is stunning in HD.

I already blew my budget on my TV.

I'll be saving for the surround sound starting next pay day.

    my budget is like this:

me: hey i want to buy a killer 2.1 system for about $900. it will blow you away how great these blue rays will sound, and it will make everything sound great. lets do it!!!

girlfriend: ok, you can get that as long as we get new windows (about $4000), a new fridge (at least $1000) and a new dishwasher ($500).

    me: i hate you.

we really do need all that stuff, but i think if i get the windows i can buy the sound system. just have to prioritize, right now its not super high on the list. we'll see though, everything should be cheaper this year, so i'm hoping we can get the home stuff taken care of for cheaper than what i just quoted.

Umm, correction - you don't NEED all that stuff, you WANT all that stuff.
I've been watching those financial shows and they say it's important to classify the difference between "Wants" and "Needs"

Now, a new stereo system....that is definitely a NEED.
