I feel like in hindsight the movie makers regret not going the two-part route for 5 and 6 because both movies miss so so so much.

I hope they do a Tom Riddle origins movie eventually to make up for some of the left out story. Hell, a detailed book would be amazing.

Every seems to want JK to write books in the future of the HP universe. I want her to go back and give up the story of Voldemort in his prime and the lead up to his fall and The Boy Who Lived

Agreed. I don't need Harry's future. I want James and Lily's past, Dumbledore's past, how Snape because a Death Eater and how love steered him away. And of course, Riddle.

I want to see the story of Pettigrew's betrayal of the Potters and Sirius' attempt at cold blooded justice; only to be framed by a corrupt/fearful ministry for assisting the murders of his dearest friends

THAT is a tale worth telling

I worry a story about the First Wizarding War would be kinda of Star Wars prequel-y.

right, which is interesting and adds depth to the story. you get bits and pieces throughout

that's why I never understand the people that want to watch / read pre-GOT stories about the rebellion or the dance of dragons or whatever. like, if you watch / read through the whole story we are provided, you understand the gist of what happened

I'm not a big star wars guy, so I don't know for sure, but weren't the prequels cannon? I don't think the stories were bad, just Lucas' execution of the film

So he read the first 4 real books, and then downloads a copy of a mislabeled OOTP, and doesn't think it's odd once it delves into Wizarding Age of Consent, fake rape plots, and drug addiction to heroine-like potions?

freaky thing is, a question I've wondered about for awhile (might've even posted about in here), and I literally only just tweeted it to Rowling herself like 2-3 days ago, asking since there are potions that can produce europhoric affects, does that mean there are drug addicts in the wizarding world. I didn't remotely expect feedback, but...

but yea from what I looked over, he definitely thought it was very strange, but heard so much about how in later books it "became so dark and adult-like", he'd just power thru to see what the fuss was about

we've finally in real time caught up to the end of the Harry Potter universe (well, though I still haven't read the "Cursed Child" story or certainly seen the play). Today, September 1st, 2017 is the day in which the DH epilogue takes place. The 19 years later when Albus Severis Potter is about to board the Hogwarts Express for his first day of school.

thanks for posting. when I first read this, I was like wait what, no way haha. completely forgot that Harry's birth year was 1980. just seems weird because I feel like I grew up as he grew up, but he's 37 and I'm 27 haha.

yea I don't think it really first fully occurred to me how much "in the past" the whole story was taking place until Entertainment Weekly had a massive comprehensive issue on the whole franchise right when the last book came out. Not that I'd gotten that far in the reading, I didn't start with book 1 until just a couple months after book 7 hit the street, but I'd been watching right along with the movies over the years. But on one page they had like an obituary for Dumbledore, and it listed the year of his death as 1998, I think it was. and I was like WTF?? Then I started paying more attention to years referenced at different events for the story, realizing Harry was born in 1980, etc.

goddammit!! Ya know, I even thought to myself something didn't look right as I typed it out, but I was too lazy to double check anywhere. and man alive is that some clunky exposition you have to get over for that scene

Do you mean the way the movie portrayed it, or the actual whole chapter? or both?

I do remember hearing at the time they basically scrapped all the footage they initially shot for it, came back another day later and that reshoot is all of what was in the movie. Because they weren't pleased with the advanced age makeup and had so many extras on set but while still trying to keep the lid on spoilers that they rushed thru the production day way too quick and it came out crappy.

    d'oh!

yea like I indicated above, it's like a huge switch you need to flick in the brain to get thru how ludicrous that sounds but while still loving and getting wrapped up in the story basically. It's sooooooo unnatural. "I need to wink at the audience right now so they get the point so while you're nervous as hell, I'll address you by your full name."
and as much as I like those names by themselves, yea they do not make a good sounding first and middle together, but obviously it nicely tied up Harry's connection to both men.

I forget if I ever said this in here, but what cracked me up about the names in the epilogue, what about poor Ginny? Those children are just as much hers as they are Harry's, but he gets to use HIS personal connection for all 4 names between both his sons?? What if she wanted to stick a George in there somewhere (or Fred, honestly I can never remember which is the twin who died lol)
