Re: Widespread Panic

I think they're pretty fucking sick. I watched a few songs from their set on the Rothbury 2008 thing they have on Palladia and I was extremely impressed. All their musicians are phenomenal, and I've been listening to them a lot since I watched them play.

ANYWAYS - Panic is amazing. The past 6 months they've finally stepped up their game for the first time since 02. If anyone saw Panic between 03 and 08 and wasn't too impressed, you shoud give them another chance. They're back to their former glory. The only band in the world I'd rather see right now is Railroad Earth.

I think Blues Traveler is playing that day, too. I dig them. Unfortunately I'm in Nashville and have no car I also have to be back by noon Saturday to take a test, so I don't think I'll be there.

I saw them open (more like a double bill) for the ABB last summer in Hartford. I didn't know a single song going in, but was honestly blown away. They were fantastic and much better than the Allmans that night. I left extremely impressed.

I went to the Orange Beach shows this week. First shows of theirs I've been to in years. They still suck. Their fans are completely ignorant. Jimmy Herring can shred, but he plays the same solo for three hours. No dynamic to their jams. I just don't get it.

EDIT: I made a $100 profit selling beer in the lot. Yay me. Good acid.

I can see where you're coming from with Jimmy. Awesome axe slayer but it does get repetitious. Say he used some effects and played a style other than noodling as fast as he can, we might be talking about a perfect fit. I never saw WSP with Houser but I cant say i LOVE Houser's style either. Schools, JB & Domingo are the heart of WSP and anyone else can be meh.

Late to the show, but after several years of resisting, I'm starting to get turned on to WSP. Space Wrangler, while different from most of their stuff is great.. going to see them on a 2 night run in about a month!

    In Alpharetta? Me too!

It took me a while to get into them too. I started going to shows cold turkey, having never heard any of their music and just wasn't really feeling it. But then Jimmy Herring joined and I got ahold of Space Wrangler, Everyday, and Til the Medicine Takes. Having been to all the Red Rocks shows since 2006 doesn't exactly hurt either. Best party ever.

Will be a weird experience in Atlanta next month though, since last time I saw them in Atlanta it was the New Years Eve shows, which were out of control.

Don't know how many people are 'that' into WSP, but last night I crashed at the A-Frame house, which was the site of their first show as WSP, and amazingly enough was a few months before I was even born. Place is a legend amongst locals and the college crowd in Athens

Heavy heavy rumors on the jam band circuit that Herring is on his way out...

I'd be very interested in seeing who would fill in. I dig a lot of the stuff Herring does, I just like Mikey better.

Pretty much sums up Herring's career at this point. Moves on to a new band every 4-5 years or so.
