How do I find the fingerprints/checksum #s on my torrent?

This is my very first torrent upload. I got the torrent from dreamingtree.org, but I am trying to upload it here so I can share a few shows.

Can anyone tell me where these numbers are?

Here is the txt file that came with the torrent:

24-bit, 96kHz .flac24 files of this stereo recording are available immediately.

Mics were arrayed in a Corey-Martin surround configuration, with 4015 subcardioids (the source of this recording) A-B, spaced about 1', and a pair of DPA 4011's oriented vertically, aimed at the roof of the amphitheatre, spaced about 1', and placed behind the forward-facing subcardioids. All channels were tracked to disk simultaneously, and in addition to a 24/96 .flac stereo version, a surround.flac24 version is available, from which a 4-channel DVD-Audio disc (Lf, Rf, Lr, Rr) can be authored. The source for the surround channels was the following:

DPA 4011 > DPA AO0182 XLR > Metric Halo Mobile I/O 2882 +DSP FireWire Interface (slaved to Trak2 clock @ 96kHz via AES) > Apple PowerBook G4/1gHz/768MB (with Hitachi 7K60 7200 RPM Internal Disk) > Metric Halo MIO Beta Recording Console (@ 24-bit / 96kHz).

Compiled by Chris Jones 28 June 2004.

    From http://wiki.etree.org/index.php?page=FlacFingerprint :

A FLAC Fingerprint is a small text file (ffp.txt) that contains the filename and the checksum information for one or more .flac files. The fingerprint is analogous to yet somewhat different from the .md5 files for used for Shorten (.shn):

    * Unlike an .md5 file, the FLAC Fingerprint ffp.txt file itself is not actually used in performing integrity checks on .flac files. Instead, when you decompress or use flac's Test feature, FLAC automatically verifies each file against an internal checksum stored in the file.

Thanks... I uploaded the dave solo show from Tutu's... It appears as if all is working. I'd like to contribute, I just obviously don't want to screw anything up.

Yeah, this is going to be a problem. If you don't know what you're doing, don't upload a show. Period.

Shouldn't there be a flac fingerprint in the set of files you got?

I upload to Oink all the time with no problem, but I don't know how to do the checksum thing...

Why can't I just learn and forever be able to do it? Is it wrong that I want I want to contribute to the community?

There should be a .md5 or .ffp file as part of the fileset. It's a plaintext file, and the checksums/signatures are in there.

That or its already in the text files. Now a days you'll find both. Almost every other torrent site requires the fingerprints to be in the source file among other things to make sure they are the exact same as the original and not some WAV->FLAC

My comment was not directed at you specifically.

Oink is one thing, spreading dmb shows is another. With few exceptions, on Oink it does not matter what you upload.

In the dmb trading community, great steps have been taken by a lot of people to ensure that unclean copies of shows are not spread. If a show has been converted, say .shn > .mp3 > .shn, the integrity of the original conversion of the show has been sullied. DO NOT SPREAD THIS TYPE OF SHOW.

Re: How do I find the fingerprints/checksum #s on my torrent?

It's one thing to be vigilliant against bad shows, it's another to be a dick to someone who's willing to go through the effort of getting a show up in a torrent. Shouldn't we be encouraging education of how to do this the right way, so in the long run we have more quality seeders, than be a dick, and discourage them from being in the community?

If he's asking for help on how to be a better trader, then point him to the resources he can learn from to be the trader you wish he was. Isn't that in your best interest, instead of being snobby about it?

After all of this, although I understand BT well enough to configure the downloading right, and FLAC/SHN enough to decode for myself, I'm not sure what the best course of action would be if you have a show in FLAC that you don't have / no longer have the fingerprints for.

I think a major objection these guys was having is that ffp's should be from the originial encoder... kind of like a certificate of authenticity from an antiques dealer... but frankly, whoever uploaded the first time could have gone lossless > lossy > lossless and then ffp'd that, for all we know. Hopefully there's enough people out there that know by now that that is a bad idea, since every FLAC/SHN download from the beginning of time seems to have that warning at the top...

That won't happen. There are too many people who did the DAT or cassette transfers from all the shows that have an archive of those. Etree also is pretty good about source info for every show and sites like dreaming tree need links to those to verify that those match. It's some extra steps but that prevents lossy shows from comming out.
