Never a good idea to use the word "overrated" about another band when defending U2. Yet another good rule of thumb.

Also, how highly "rated" something is really doesnt express shit about how you feel about it. I really hate that word. Its like having an opinion without really saying anything at all. So other people rate the beatles too high. Does that affect your enjoyment of them or what?

George's eastern music influence had already been done, so WYWO isn't particularly revolutionary. Not to mention, Love You To is a better song, IMO.

With or Without You is just a fucking perfect song.

Negative context. By saying the Beatles are overrated you're implying a defense of U2. So you weren't just saying they were overrated.

By the way, it's With or Without You. Within You Without You is a once in awhile song to listen to.

I think Bono has the nicer voice. That's really the one thing that has always kept me away from the Beatles, there vocals. One of the only songs I can tolerate is Let it Be--I really like that one--the rest are too whiny.

I respectfully disagree. Within You Without You is one of George's most powerful lyrical masterpieces, if not THE most. I think WY/WO and a lot of Dave's lyrics have many common themes ("We were talking about the space between us all"--"We look at each other, wondering what the other is thinking"). I can understand why people might be turned off by the Indian music (sitar, etc.), but lyrically this song is an absolute gem.

Although, I may be biased because WY/WO you was my high school yearbook quote back in the day, haha- "Try to realize it's all within yourself, no one else can make you change. And the time will come when you see we're all one, life flows on within you and without you."

Try to tell me that's not an awesome line!

A lyric doesn't make a song. How the music makes you feel does though. And singing can be a part of it.

I don't really care for either song. But if I had to choose, U2's song would be tops because I enjoy the music more than that Beatles song.

Within You, Without You bores me to tears. Even back when I was a 15-year old fanatic, the song refused to click with me. Should have been a b-side. The song feels shoehorned into the album.

I might agree that the song doesn't necessarily fit neatly into the album as a whole because it really is so drastically different. George was definitely the most "out-there" member of the group, and they might have felt they needed to throw him a bone and give him a spot on the album for a song he wrote.

But, I respectfully disagree that the song is boring. I love the droning sitar and the percussion is awesome. The vocals fit perfectly into the overall tonal approach of the song. I really like to think of the song as a meditation-inducing dreamscape, it's very relaxing and it has an awesome message. Very transcendental. If you find that boring, I can't argue against it, but what you find boring I find to be a brilliant production.

This is because The Beatles isn't the greatest band in the world. Also, the poll doesn't feature one of their better songs. For instance, which song do you think would win if the poll was Beautiful Day vs. A Day in the Life?

I'd take A Day in the Life over almost every song I've ever heard so if you're trying to imply With or Without You is U2's best song that is crazy. Not sure it's even in their top 5.

Yeah that's why I said that in my post. Saying something is overrated is like not even saying anything. You pretty much stayed that you don't like how others rate the Beatles without giving your own opinion at all

I like most of Harrison's stuff, including the Eastern stuff. Within You, Without You is just boring and is horribly placed on the album. Pretty much the only black mark on Sgt. Peppers.

U2 is one of the most overrated bands of all time. Bono is a tool and Edge is one of the most overrated guitarists in the world.

But I do like a couple of their songs With or Without You being one.

That being said I'm not really a big fan of Within You Without You. The rest of that album is way better than that song.

I reluctantly have to go with the U2 song in this rare case.
