Just an incredible trials really, Sydney McLaughlin has taken the baton from Allyson Felix as America's greatest track star and I was pumped to see SM break the world record in 400h yesterday. Unfortunately for SM she's always going to have doubters because she is being coached by Bobby Kersee but she fits the child prodigy trajectory with no huge jumps in performance to do what she is doing clean. You make great points and it's going to be a really interesting Olympics and following few years for the reasons you pointed out!

New shoe Thursday. I bought 2 pairs hoping to switch every other day to help with injuries and extend shoe life.

Saucony glide 14s (I've used the 13s for the past year and they worked great for my stride)
    Brooks launch 8

Both are just basic road shoes designed for everyday running. Nothing fancy and my stride doesnt let me train in ghosts or any of the real nice shoes.

Did my second speed workout in 2+ years. 6x800s. I don’t miss it. Also, reading Again to Carthage. Excellent read, much better than Running With Sherman, which I had just finished.

Howdy, runners! Long time since I have been around these parts. Love all the chatter, training idea, sharing of information and I am 100% onboard with changing the thread title to "Running with Laura". I MUCH prefer colder running temps, so this time of year is the worst for me. Speed work in these conditions is like running in mud and dying in pools of sweat. Gets so bad that my shoes feel like I was running in the rain.

Also, someone mentioned Pfitzinger training plans. I used those for my first couple of marathons and really liked them. There was Low, Moderate and High plans. There was a great mix of speed work, easy runs and long runs, with appropriate builds over the different cycles of training. Since it was my first go around with marathon training, I made all the mistakes and dealt with a slight injury as well. But I felt ready when I got to the start line to run the race I trained for and that is all you can hope for with during training, regardless of what the ultimate outcome is on race day.

I've bounced back from my injury just fine. Currently doing 40 mile weeks for all of July, 6 days of running, only one hard workout per week.

I've looked over some pftiz plans and I think I can train for a 3:15 marathon doing the 55 mile week plan.

I'd say I could run a 1:35 half right now, maybe a little better, so I think that's an attainable goal.

I first put in sub 3 in the excel spreadsheet that someone else created and I realized I didn't have the fitness for that pace. I think 3:15 is realistic but still a solid goal.

I did a 7 mile tempo run this morning with my middle 4 miles at 7:09 pace. Heart rate was high 150s low 160s for that portion.

i've used those race predictor calculators before using my HM times. my predicted marathon time was always way faster than i've ever run marathons are freakin tough. i think i need to get more comfortable with being uncomfortable

think i'm going to pull the trigger on a half right around thanksgiving. newburyport, MA. i'll use the 12 week pfitz training plan that i've used before. until that starts, there is also a base building schedule i can follow. this will give me a strong foundation before training for big sur over the winter

when i don't have a specific plan to follow, i find that i don't push myself in terms of longer runs/harder workouts

I still have three pairs of 35s I'm currently trying to run through. One is around 400 miles (almost dead), the other two are around 300. I used to burn through shows pretty fast. So I'd buy more whenever they were on sale. I have still been buying them at that rate, while not using them as quickly.

My Garmin thinks I can run a sub 3 and a 1:26 half

There's a great excel spreadsheet floating out there where you just pump in your goal time and it tells you all the paces you should run for a pftiz plan. Just Google pftiz 18/55 excel and you can find it. I saved it and then made some tweaks to it. I also own the book so I can cross reference my training.

I'm thinking probably just the Madison marathon on November 14. Save money as it's my local marathon. I was also thinking maybe Nashville on November 20 but I doubt my wife wants to use a vacation on me running a marathon this year.

Somebody just broke the FKT on the Appalachian Tail as well. Wasn’t an American though.

Had my 8 week check up after my procedure this afternoon. and I was cleared for full activity without restriction!

I went out for a 1 mile run; almost all of my rehab has been functional strength and very very very short distance running/sprinting.

10:15 pace, HR max at 152. It felt so good to be able to go for a run!

Me too. There's a documentary out there on Peacock (I think) about him. It is from the perspective of the NOP. Worth a watch.

I’m about to finish my base too. I’ve been sitting at 35s for the past 10 weeks, not quite 40. Looking forward to spending some time on the trails and the track.

Training is going well for me.

    44 miles last week.

    47 this week.

Only thing going on right now is a blister on my left big toe. Doesn't impact my running yet so that's good. Doing gel bandaids and toe socks to keep it under control

Calf is heeled. Have a dorky sleeve on it. Excited to try and pull something else around 4PM today.

Pretty major announcements by Chicago and London marathons today:

Chicago 2021: all registered participants will be required to provide proof of a complete COVID-19 vaccination series or a negative COVID-19 test result to participate in the 2021 Bank of America Chicago Marathon.

London 2022 will be run on Oct 2, 2022. Meaning for the third straight year the marathon will shift from April to October.

Galen is running Chicago. Hopefully he can bounce back.
