Re: The National

I'll always be grateful to the 2008 Obama campaign because this video they put out, with Fake Empire instrumental in the background, introduced me to The National: https://youtu.be/EcRA2AZsR2Q

I was so into the song that I searched it out and found the National...it was so jarring when I heard Matt's vocals on it the first time. But if it weren't for that video who knows many more years it woulda been before I found them, and they're top 3 for me no question.

I like that song. Also feel it may be one that works better in the context of the album. My only gripe is that the guitar in the middle and ending portions is way too low in the mix. Saw them play this on the Paris stream last week and the guitar work is beautiful and came through much better live.

I really can't wait to hear the studio cut of this song -

    "Dark Side of the Gym"

(I don't think Annie is on the album version though which kinda sucks)

    Nice.

I hope there's some Sufjan Stevens thrown in there too. Even if he doesn't get liner credit.

I want this album to leak badly. Been on a huge National kick in preparation. I got into them with High Violet, so I've played that and TWFM to death (still love both), so I've been much more on an Alligator and Sad Songs kick. They've just got a really wonderful discography.

Same here. But we'll have Grizzy Bear, The War on Drugs & LCD Soundsystem to hold us over while we wait.

Really hope their new album doesn't suck. After Alt-J and now Arcade Fire both releasing duds, we need a good Indie rock album.

Having heard all the new stuff live, I think it's going to be a very good record that fits in well with their past output. Time will tell though.

Some magazine overseas ran a story on them and included a free 5 song live EP that's a really nice listen.

    Guilty Party (6/22/17)
    Turtleneck (6/22/17)
    Don't Swallow the Cap (11/4/13)
    Slipped (4/23/14)
    Terrible Love (6/11/14)

    FLAC
    MP3

I think I'm gonna hold off til next Friday. The latest trend of 4-5 songs being released from albums pre-release has taken away a bit from the feeling i get when i listen to an album of one of my favorite bands for the first time. There's something about listening to an album in its entirety for the first time and having almost all of it be new to you that is more satisfying to me than already knowing every 2-3 songs.
