I think the reason some people aren't crazy about it is because it's so quiet and understated. It's the exact opposite of Big Whiskey which is loud and in your face.

It has some of my favorite songs the band has ever done: Snow Outside, Broken Things, Sweet, The Riff. And every other tune on it is pretty solid as well. There are no duds on it, which is a major problem with some of the bands other recent work.

Overall I couldn't be happier with it. Most well produced and written DMB album in a long time.

I don't disagree with you on this. It's a lot like the guys on the podcast have said "We don't want to hear new quiet songs, play the old quiet songs!" Like I said, I think the highs on the album are quite high, I didn't really care for Mercy or Gaucho, they're ok, I don't think they're in any way indicative of the band's best work, which I guess most of us feel is true about basically all of the singles they've released over their career.

Big Whiskey & the GrooGrux King is worlds better

Stand Up is worse as a studio album, but the songs are better live than those from Away from the World

This is as close as I can come to describing the three.

Away from the world has its songs, and some do very well live, but left much to be desired in the studio

BW is a fun album. In the studio and for the most part enjoy it live so long as Shake Me doesn't close the show. Not a bad song live at all, but should not close a show.

Stand up really translated well live IMO. They really don't play much of it live, but I like what they do for the most part.

Out of those, Hello Again is the only song I would actually be excited for. I don't mind Bayou but could never hear Die Trying again and be happy, and have no interest in seeing ABI.

lol that is a "tasty" run.

I don't understand how people like Bayou yet don't like Seven. Dave repeats "you" in both songs. It's the same thing.

I feel like a lot of people that are down on it now liked it at first, I was one of them. I liked it initially because it wasn't Stand Up part 2, but then the more I listened to it the more I became indifferent to it and realized the songs weren't that good.

Songs I skip when listening to studio albums

BW - LITHOG, Seven, Baby Blue, You & Me

AFTW - Belly Belly Nice, Mercy, Gaucho, Belly Full, If Only

4/12 skipped on BW versus 5/11 skipped on AFTW. For me, BW is the more listenable studio album.
