WATM: why no bonus disc?!

that was the most disappointing thing about this new album release news. no bonus disc!

we got no bonus disc on CT and the AFTW bonus disc was just live stuff, but BW and SU both had extra material / b-sides.

the tracklist was about what i expected but i was hoping for more extra material with a premium bundle package.

I would like a bonus disc but I don't feel entitled to one. Not surprised we aren't getting one (as of now).

They only had 2.5 years to work on this release. And you expect a bonus disc? That would take another year-and-a-half, at least!

I had a feeling we would be let down here. My best guess is they will eventually release a b sides album and they are just saving all the songs for that. Could be the last thing we get from them as a band

No, the official email went out and there’s no mention of a bonus disc.

CT had a pre-order bonus disc. It was live stuff, but it had one.

I think Busted Stuff was the last one with no pre-order incentive.

Didn't Busted Stuff come with a bonus DVD? Or was that already included with orders regardless? I can't remember.

Due to lack of pre-order sales, watch them add a bonus disc in the next few weeks or so.

There is no reason they cannot tack on a digital only disc at any point. I don't even get why they couldn't throw like the live tracks already played on a "Disc" even the sirius streams just more mixed and mastered would've been better than nothing lol

I'm with you, they gave us non-vinyl folks no reason to pre-order.

Random question: When i download this on May 19 via Apple Music. Does my download contribute to the billboard albums chart? I know they want that #1 spot to keep the streak going. If my download on Apple Music doesnt go towards the billboard chart, i have no idea why they didnt give us a bonus album so we'll purchase the physical CD.

Right, it wasn't a pre-order thing. That was part of the standard release in stores, etc.

Really bummed out by lack of pre-order bonus. As many others said, it really lowers my desire to pre-order it. Without any bonus, I will likely stream it when it first comes out, then eventually get around to buying it down the road. The pre-order bonus could have been anything, a past Live Trax, remastered versions of live performances of the new songs. There are plenty of low-cost ways that this could have been approached to actually get hype in people pre-ordering.

I think it's too early to complain about this. All sorts of exclusive bonus tracks could pop up between now and May - this is just the very first day of the album announcement. It usually comes later for other bands but I understand DMB's actual bonus CDs do come usually now. Let's see what happens. They may add a Deluxe Edition to Apple Music or something with live bonus tracks. Surely the release doesn't come and go without at minimum, live versions of the new songs.

Totally disappointed. And there is NOTHING bonus. Not a sticker, not a live trax bundle, a fucking t shirt.. Nope just pay DMB 4 months in advance for physical media and exorbitant shipping fees.

This is real dumb. I'm gonna not order it, but if I did, I would just wait until the price is about $22 on Amazon in May with free shipping.

He has mentioned this a handful of times over the years. A "live/not live" album of songs they have only played live but record them in the studio.

I also kinda figured they'd release a companion or Deluxe version a la AFTW with live versions of the songs - considering they've clearly avoided releasing any of these new songs on official releases. I have to assume the next Live Trax is gonna be a 2022 show.

Ya, as is, what's the incentive for buying it right now? They truly don't understand marketing. Someone is going to be scratching their heads in a few weeks wondering why the preorders aren't rolling in yet. "Huh? I don't know? Maybe the fans are over it? Huh?"

I always assumed the bonus disc was a way of encouraging us to order the album from the band's website instead of some other retailer (since the band/management make more money if you buy the album from them).

Perhaps physical album sales (CDs + vinyl) now make up such a small proportion of revenue that it's not worth it to manufacture a bonus disc?

But, yeah, I'm very disappointed, too.

If that were the case than why make any physical media at all? Another 10,000 copies of cardboard with a disc has to cost them about $.50 a piece.
