It’s the same as the 20th anniversary. So instead of giving the fans the BTCS remastered vinyl we’ve been BEGGING for now for YEARS, they’re just like, “Nah, here’s the release we already did six years ago. LOL.” This has to be the most mis-managed band in history.

Wasn’t there some big warehouse fire in CA that destroyed a lot of original tapes? Could this have something to do with BTCS? I only say that because it was recorded in CA.

You're probably thinking of the 2008 Universal Studios fire

DMB is on a different label (RCA, which is part of Sony), so different label, their recordings were not affected by that fire

I regretted getting the splatter pressing of Crash instead of the black last time so it's nice to be able to pick that up now.

The real answer is that it doesn't matter in this case and the Crash, black vinyl at least, is a phenomenal pressing.

They claim it’s remastered from the analog tapes. Leads me to believe it’s from a digital transfer. However, the pressing I have is one of the best sounding records in my collection.

The black 2016 pressing is phenomenal. Heard things on Proudest Monkey I had never heard before. May pick up this one to have another.

I haven't done any comparisons or paid attention, does the splatter vinyl have issues? I remember ordering the Splatter version from Amazon and ultimately getting it for free because someone here said to bitch about it because it wasn't colorful enough of a splatter pattern compared to the advertisement.

No issues with the pressing, however it is only 150 gram compared to the 180 on the black, and it turned out kind of lame looking.

Oh I'm not into vinyl at all, just find this whole fiasco entertaining.

Personally I just want the digital files they pressed the vinyl from. Same with BTCS - give me the hi-res

I've got a feeling if we get BTCS it's gonna be digital or "remastered". Hoping there will be some extras included to lessen the scrutiny for the wait and repress.

In 2016, when it was announced, they had a video on FB of Chris Bellman running the 1/4" tape and the lacquer being cut, so it was definitely AAA without a digital capture step.

I can't remember if this was the case with Crash (in fact, I don't think it was) but Phish was providing download codes with the remastered releases of their studio work and was the vinyl rip.

Well, whether they use the analog source tapes and have no digital process, or they cut from a hi-res digital copy, or anything between; they're all "remastered".

There are some rumblings that the master tapes are either damaged, destroyed, or lost for BTCS - which is the current delay. No idea how true/close to the truth that is, though.

And that wouldn't necessarily prevent a remastered release or even an all analog remaster - they could potentially use a safety copy/2nd gen tapes (if they exist and are in good shape).

Hopefully we're not far off from finding out.

The availability of those masters have been notoriously questionable and I fear it goes in part with the '97 live recordings that were lost. I'm hoping we'll be getting an answer via Matt Norlander very soon, or even Rodrigo. I'd actually be fine with a safety copy / digital as I think it will still be good enough for the masses and the original release will hold some of their perceived value. Fingers crossed.

It's possible it was found-inventory rather than a full repressing/restock of the 2016 release.

I'm hoping they find the master tape and make the original printing obsolete by giving us a better vinyl than the original. Well, it won't be obsolete except for the most fringe vinyl collectors.

What’s the backstory on the 97 recordings? I don’t think I’ve heard that before.

Wasn’t a 2003 D&T show(westpoint?)professionally recorded and the recordings were damaged?

I've been told a significant amount of the '97 tour has been lost / damaged. Live show recordings.

That’s so insane it’s laughable. Sealed or not. My Dave signed copy (only one I’ve ever even seen that was signed) was a bit under $1k in NM condition.

FYI - in case any missed it in the New Album thread, but it appears to be somewhat acknowledged by those with inside info that the BTCS tape *were* lost/missing at one point, but that has been resolved.

Ive seen a few. Did you get it signed yourself / authenticated by a reputable 3rd party?
