The latest Animals is a remix and master, not just a remaster of an existing mix (though they did include that on disc 2 or whatever)

I don't think anyone was calling for BTCS to be remixed

I would say the vinyl sounds pretty average/good... being a double disc, they have lots of room for groove spacing and also it was pressed during vinyl's dead years so not bad considering.

The whole album will be remixed in the same fashion as Crash Into Me.

The Crash Into me single was remixed? I've never seen that; can you provide a link?

The Animals remix should be the gold standard for all bands moving forward.

I agree and not just because I love DMB. It's one of the best records I own. It's a real treat to fire that one up. I think they've mostly done a good job on vinyl releases minus UTTAD.

Red Rocks, Luther College, and Crash are some of the best records I own sound quality wise.

Considering I listened those CDS around 10,000 million times when they came out, to still enjoy them in a new format is what's really amazing. The remaster was like going from SD to HD. Like watching The Godfather for the first time on Blu Ray after only seeing it on VHS.

It's quite literally like listening to the songs for the first time again. There are so many parts of the songs that you hear so much more clearly than you do on the original mixes. Phenomenal remix.

Exactly. They took it to a whole new level.

BTW… today is the perfect day to listen. Was released OTD in 1977!!

Seems like the question is about the remaster which is the original 1977 mix presented, but the answer is about the 2018 remix.

The mastering for both mixes (well, all three mixes as this pertains to the 5.1 mix also) was done by Guthrie with Joel Plante, so the levels and equalization are all pretty similar.

Worth listening to both if you have time, the '77 then the '18.

No surprises here, I prefer the 5.1 mix - Guthrie did a great job with this one as he did with WYWH.

    Agreed.

The debut album from Rage Against the Machine from 1992 is DR9, the Audio Fidelity/Steve Hoffman mastering from 2017 or so whenever it was (SACD Hybrid, so CD layer playable on all CD players) is DR12; it's not just different because it has less dynamic range compression (Steve went with a flatter eq) but the improvements are pretty large.

I don't expect we'd get an audiophile CD release of BTCS though, and any "remaster" done by the parent label would be more like Come Tomorrow and less like UTTAD. BTCS isn't a mess of clipping like Crash, but it is fairly brickwalled.

If you're asking about the remixed version, yes it's pretty good. There are a couple things I'm not fond of, like in Pigs (Three Different Ones), the attack of the drumkit in the intro part is a little too in-your-face when compared with how it randomly then fades into the background (where did the cymbals go?) in the verse. In Dogs, at 11:48, there's this noodly guitar bit going on that got time-shifted forward a second or so.

Otherwise it's decent, as the original mix pretty lacking and muddy. The new one actually brings out the bass that was lacking in the original.

If we can get an AF SACD of BTCS, that would be the bee's knees as it were

    Audio Fidelity is defunct, sadly.

Like Doby said, there's very little chance of an audiophile BTCS CD release.

I just really hope they don't prioritise the vinyl people. There's plenty of people out there who don't have turntables who long for a fully-featured remaster with bonus tracks and new artwork. Happy to pay for it as well. Just hope it's not vinyl only like Crash was.

Watch them just press it to vinyl from the digital files and make it sound like absolute crap. No bonus tracks. No remix/remaster. Shitty and thin packaging. And they sell it for $49.99.

Odds the BTCS reissue is part of a deluxe package with the album and a Live Trax?

Or do they keep it all separate?

The Norlander podcasts seemed to think this was really being worked on, but it also sounds like he had some bad sources. Likely the same sources we all use here.

Re: What would you want in the 25th Anniv. package of BTCS?

Somebody said BTCS sounds perfect - I actually think that it sounds much worse than UTTAD or Crash, purely in terms of the mix/master.

I don't think BTCS needs a remix (except maybe a version of Stay with the Lovely Ladies edited out lol), but it definitely needs a remaster. The upper-midrange and the top end needs some work IMO

Also, I too would love an SACD, but I'd be satisfied with a 24/192 digital version with a few extra tracks. I'd be really pissed if the best we get is vinyl
