Re: What would you want in the 25th Anniv. package of BTCS?

The good thing about most of the audiophile boutique labels we're discussing is there would be a chance of a well done vinyl pressing along with a beautifully mastered Super Audio CD Hybrid - so if you don't know what SACD is or have a player, you could enjoy the audiophile mastering via the CD layer.

Intervention Records, MOFI or Analogue Productions all regularly do vinyl/SACD releases of their titles. Intervention and AP would cut AAA. MOFI might too given management sent the original analogue master of Crash out to California to be cut. Sony seem to not like doing that, but for catalogue titles I'm guessing the band can make the calls.

I mean I guess that's a big improvement but I, like many, don't own a turntable. I'll fully defend the idea that audiophilia doesn't have to involve vinyl, I consider myself an audiophile but I go digital all the way.
(Not that it's relevant, but since I'm writing it, I use a FiiO M11 DAP for portable [usually using the ThieAudio Monarch IEMs], and at home I have my locally stored music library going to my Swans D300 via an SMSL PO100 interface to keep the chain fully digital til it gets to the DSP stage of the speakers)

Maybe someday I'll get into vinyl, but I just don't believe in it. If we went back to AAA recording/mixing, that's another story. But I don't need digitally recorded and mixed music put on the most inconvenient audio medium there is.

To me it's what made the song corny since the start. Maybe it's just me, but every time I listen to the studio recording, I imagine it identical just without the Ladies and I'm convinced it'd make for a better track

Maybe I'm misinterpreting what you said, but they sent the Crash tapes to MoFi? Since they - by their own admittance after the recent "fake AAA" scandal got out - do everything from a DSD transfer of the master tapes, I'd love for DMB to put out SACD titles and/or a DSD digital release, both of which more than unlikely

Green Day's Nimrod 25 comes out tonight.

The full album, 14 demos (six unheard songs), and a full live album.

    Take notes, DMB.

No, MoFi are often transferring the master tapes to DSD256 because labels won’t let them take the tapes to California where all their mastering equipment is. Sony typically don’t let their tapes go anywhere other than Sterling which used to be in NY, so MoFi would go there to back up to DSD256 (sometimes 64).

As management let Crash tapes go to Bernie Grundman Mastering in California, it would seem they can overrule Sony’s policies on where the masters go when it comes to DMB. If that’s the case, MoFi would be able to do a proper AAA cut.

I hope it gets a good pressing. BTCS is my favorite DMB album and I've pumped a lot of money this year into audio here at the house (surround for the TVs, better mix/speakers for my vinyl setup, actually pricy headphones for private listening while I work) - so I feel like it could be incredible if done right.

I'm hesitant to believe DMB would celebrate BTCS the same year they're releasing a new album. Seems like an invitation to have everyone shit on WATM by comparison.

Yup. It’s 2018 all over again.

Title will be changed to ‘30th’. Then we can expect another DMB album in 2028. Dave’s doing it on purpose to toy with us.

Dylan’s Bootleg series for the Time Out of Mind sessions released today. Like all the other bootleg series it’s pretty incredible how many versions of songs that were out there. Also, songs that were recorded during one album session but ended up being re-recorded for a later albums. The Time Out of Mind sessions has 60 songs, over six hours. BTSC is the most beloved album from DMB, so they should really try to capitalize on that but throwing everything they’ve got on it. I’m not sure DMB will get more popular with time.

assuming BTCS 25 will be the big fall/winter marketing push.

not a vinyl person myself, so while i hope y'all get a good remaster/pressing, what i'm really hoping for are unreleased songs and outtakes. a making of doc like the one Sam Erickson alluded to would be awesome as well.

but like everything with this band, not gonna get my hopes up

It’s okay if they want to hold BTCS25 for fall/winter.

But when the 25th anniversary date rolls around they need to at least acknowledge its in the works. Staying mum will cause some chaos

That would be 3 weeks prior to Walk Around The Moon coming out. I really don't see them doing that.

Very ok. Including a BTCS tour with the Kronos Quartet.

I personally never got the obsession about anniversaries of albums.

Especially when I imagine most of the people here weren't buying this album on release date.

Because it’s an opportunity for a band to release an updated version of one of their classic albums. Usually including some extras to go along with it.

I’m not saying they open up presale or anything, but when they make their annual social media posts celebrating the anniversary of the album, they can throw a “and stay tuned for a release to celebrate the album later this year”.

I bought the CD on the release date. And I want it on vinyl. And, if they stay on par with previous 20th anniversary releases, it will come with a download card for previously unreleased material.
