I am aware but still, they can easily turn it around in the last 2+ weeks but do you think any team wants to face them in a playoff series? Toews, Kane, Ladd, Panarin, Hosssa, Anisimov, Keath and Seabrook can step it up big time and pack quite a punch.

As for tonight, no knock on Darling but I have to wonder how that game turns out if Crawford was in the net.

I love how you regularly list out good players for the Hawks. Like we don't remember who plays for them.

Time for the Rangers to step up! Also, after the Devils lost 7-1 the other night to the Ducks the Rangers didn't want to miss a chance to make the Devils look even worse!

only team in the east hotter than the Pens in the last 10 is the Flyers

would be interesting to see if either of them could make noise in the playoffs

teams like the Panthers, Islanders and Caps are prime early exit candidates. would love to see the Pens make it far enough to matchup against Philly (if, of course, Malkin is back by then)

with 3 more head-to-head matchups, if the Pens or Flyers miss the playoffs, they'll only have themselves to blame

All of this is gravy for Flyers fans. Not expected to be in the playoffs. If we get an extra 4-6 games, great!

yea it's a fun race right now

trying not be a homer, but if Malkin can come back ahead of schedule, i feel like the Pens could make more noise than the Flyers in the playoffs. however, we've seen crazier things happen

So happy my one team (Rangers) helped out my other team (Kings) last night. Tonight's game needs to go to OT so I can be happy for both and Kings pull out the W.

Would love for the Rangers to win tonight, but the way the Kings are playing, along with the fact that the Rangers played last night and are in the different time zone suggests to me that the Kings will win big tonight. Hope to wake up surprised again though!

If the Flyers stay this hot into the playoffs I fully expect them to be better than the Pens in the post season. On paper I agree with you, but the playoffs are never about on paper.

nah not just on paper...Pens are actually playing just as good as the Flyers over the last 2 weeks PLUS they have a better paper roster

and the Pens will likely have more favorable matchups if they get the 1st WC and the Flyers get the 2nd WC

no way the Flyers beat the Caps in a best of 7...however, i could see the Pens winning their 1st round matchup against anyone...if they get in of course

why would could you see the Pens "winning their 1st round matchup against anyone" but not the Flyers? The teams are only two points apart from one another.

This is true any year (Sorry, Barbs.) But I really am liking the way the Pens are shaping up, especially with their 3rd and 4th lines picking up some slack. Even without Malkin, they should be able to eek out a playoff spot.

The way they are both playing right now, the Pens and Flyers are shaping up to be the two Eastern WC teams (or better.) If they both somehow make it far enough to face each other, it'd be a great playoff matchup as always.

has nothing to do with points. it's all about matchups. the pens matchup well against Washington or Florida (which are the 2 most likely 1st rounders as of today)

i see no way the Flyers beat the Caps in a series though. not saying it's impossible, i'm saying it's a better matchup for the Pens in the first round

if the Pens have to see the NYR or Boston its a different story. those are terrible matchups for the Pens. but chances are they won't see either of those teams in the 1st round

yea Pens v. Flyers would be very fun but man, they'd have to do some dragon slaying to get to that point

Shame that Brenden Morrow is retiring 9 games short of playing 1,000 NHL games. I know it is business and TB is gearing up for the playoffs but it would be nice to see such a great player hit another milestone before he hangs up his skates.

Wow have we been treated to a rookie class that is making such an impact and will continue to do so for hopefully a long time. The calder pick is going to be tricky and I sure as hell wouldn't want to vote. Truthfully I wish the players voted instead of the mdeia weenies. Larkin, Panarin, Eichel, Gostisbehere and McDavid are all amazing players and have been a joy to watch form a purely fan standpoint and I hope they all continue to keep going for many more years!

Edit: I cannot recall a rookie class this loaded with talent!

He has a legit shot no doubt but I think the fact that he has only played in 53 games at this point is going to hurt his case just like McDavid's missed games will likely cost him the award. If he had played a full season I think McDavid would run away with the calder, he is the most talented of the 5 I listed. Not trying to be a homer but I think right now Panarin has the edge on all of them and is the guy to beat out - you can make the case that that he is not really a rookie because he played in the KHL but many Calder winners have played in the AHL, both are professional organizations. Ditto in the knock that he benefits from playing on the same line as Kane, he simply wouldn't be on that line if he didn't produce and to be honest his play makes Kane a better player simply by giving him more options.

edit: I was not aware Gostisbehere played in 2 games for the Flyers last season.

My top 3 right now (and it's tough) remain the same:
    Ghost Bear
    Panarin
Larkin (winner... but barely, mostly because I love his poise and 3-zone game)

And what's crazy is none of them were even drafted in the top 10 of their draft class (Panarin, of course, undrafted).

McDavid could easily be in it, but left him off because of injuries and simply not playing as many games. Had he, he'd be running away with the trophy. And Eichel's right there as well. Certainly not a bust.

Also: Max Domi, Anthony Duclair, Colton Parayko (and the Yotes have Strome in the wings... crazy young talent being stockpiled there), Sam Reinhart, John Gibson... good heavens.

Good call on Gibson, I should have noted him because he certainly deserves to be in the discussion!

Agreed on the rest - so much young talent added to the league this season it has been great to watch.
