Re: What was the last movie you watched?

Anyone else looking forward to The Death of Dick Long?

I saw the title and a screenshot and thought it looked dumb. Then I watched the trailer and it looks promising.

I still haven't got around to watching the trailer, but I think the poster is one of 2019's best.

F&F: Hobbs and Shaw. I saw this for Vanessa Kirby, and while I was entertained, it didn't live up to its' parent franchise, and plot holes you could drive semis through, not to mention just logically impossible occurences, but fun, better than most the end of August crap we get stuck with.
Anyone seen The Tracker with Dolph Lundgren?

I've been watching some coming-of-age movies. Welcome to the Dollhouse, Heathers, Kids... intense, harsh stories.

Super Dark Times is up next, then probably White Girl and Hot Summer Nights.

Love this trailer. So refreshing to see a trailer not give away half the movie.

Show the three leads...show the tension. Do all that with only one line of dialogue.

I know it's a teaser and there will be a longer trailer at some point, but that's all I needed to see. I'm in.

    Good Boys - 7/10

Good for a laugh, but nothing too special. There really wasn't any build up and the pacing is very fast. The direction felt "generic." Still, quite a few good jokes, which is all I was really expecting.

Really dug this one and it’s unfortunate it’s not getting more press. One of the rare movies where as I was watching it, I thought to myself that I have no idea how this story is going to end. But I don’t know yet what to make of the ending, so far now it’s sitting neck and neck with The Farewell for my top spot for the year right now. Absolutely superb acting across the board and directing that kept me fully engrossed the entire time. Don’t miss this one. I especially want to hear other people’s takes on the ending and it seems like no one has seen this movie. There’s not even a remotely lengthy thread on the movies subreddit.

I've been to the theater 32 times this year, and I saw the trailer for Luce exactly once. Despite the early buzz surrounding a potential best supporting actress nod for Octavia Spencer, there has been almost zero marketing for it. Even now, there's only two theaters within 150 miles of me that are showing it. If it's still on next weekend, I might get around to watching it.

As for The Farewell being at the top of your list right now, looks like we're in for another year where you and I don't see eye-to-eye.

I think you're dead inside and no one in your family told you.

As for Luce, I went to the late showing and I was the only person in the theatre. Which is a double edged sword because it made the experience itself absolutely awesome, but unfortunate that on a Saturday night at one of the main theatres in Nashville, a great movie was only able to sell one ticket.

Nah, that's the problem. My grandmother was the most important person in my life, and she battled with cancer for years. Maybe my expectations were too high, but The Farewell should've packed a fairly poignant punch to my gut. The ideas were there. The execution wasn't.

The only failure of The Farewell is that it didn’t stick the landing.

    Boiler Room

Still good. I have all my DVD's and blu-rays ripped to a server. This was just a DVD and I haven't watched any DVD's in probably at least 10 years. I was randomly browsing through them last night just trying to remember what I had and decided to start watching this. It sure makes it easy when I can browse and start playing any movie I own without having to get up from the couch.

can you guys help me out please with what movie I'm trying to think of here? It's horror, I'm fairly certain from the early 90s. The opening scene (or at least somewhere in the first act) is some giant automated machine with workers all around it. Someone gets their clothing or something caught in it and they get pulled thru it, it totally mutilates their body, like it's a really gross image what winds up coming out the other side.

I was thinking it was something Wes Craven did, but I just looked over his page, nothing really jumped out at me.

You're probably thinking of Stephen King's The Mangler. Haven't seen the movie, but the short story is great.

yes that's it! thank you. looking up the trailer real quick, that's definitely it. I think that was one of the movies that was on the PPV system at the time where a guy at my work sold me this chip to stick into the box to get everything for free. And so with channel surfing being much more common then, I think for whatever reason I wound up more often than not coming by that channel during that sequence.
