2024 Tour early thoughts

What are some early questions/thoughts/predictions or facts we know about the next tour?

Like will WATM play be as heavy? A direct continuation and pick up from 2023?

Will MME get played every night still?

With Europe how shortened will the summer and falls tour be? This isn’t 2010 where they can do 100+ shows

Any inside knowledge on any dates or specific venue confirmations?

Also I have a weird hunch this might be the last ever Alpine…

    1) as heavy? no. heavier than other albums? probably
    2) probably not
    3) minimal change to summer; fall tours should not be expected in non-album years
    4) there's an entire thread for rumored dates

Maybe the odd trend of introducing new songs will continue. It was very weird how Cha Cha and Straight Shot both debuted during an album tour. I’m all for this.

I’m pretty much over MME at this point. Don’t think I would mind never hearing it again.

I have a feeling that (mostly) every tour we’ll get 1-2 song debuts, similar to what they did with the WATM songs.

Interesting. I rate it quite highly, although every other show is a bit much for anything.

It is the 30 year anniversary of Under The Table and Dreaming…

20 years since Crazy-Easy Good Good Time and Sugar Will were being road tested…

Give me a summer tour of Crazy Easy, GGT, Hello Again, Loving Wings, Typical, #34, Rhyme, Joyride. I could take or leave Sugar Will.

Best of What's Around in regular rotation would be a good start

    Re: 2024 Tour early thoughts

I'm going to guess it still leans heavy to WATM. Most bands consider 2 full years as album support these days.

I don't think MME is going anywhere. Dave has said it's his favorite thing to play and the band would play it multiple times a night if they could get away with it.

I still love it. I didn't think it was a great choice for a single, but it's a good full band DMB song and packs a punch live.

I hope the keep ABI in rotation. Would love to see more of:

    You Never Know
    Best of What's Around
    What You Are
    Fool To Think
    Sweet Up and Down
    Break For It
    Joyride
Spoon - the way they played it last year sounded really good
    Big Eyed Fish
    Bartender
    The Stone
    Busted Stuff
Bismarck - needs some work, but that will only happen with regular plays
JTR- not sure why this song seems to get a handful of plays every couple years, sounds amazing, then goes back on the shelf..

It would be awesome to recognize these things, but you know the band won't lol.

Last year was BTCS 25th anniversary with a re-release. They had multiple chances to play the album in full, play more of it more often, and yet they didn't.

I agree with you! It's a great modern DMB song.

I can't believe this year will be the 4th year since it was first played in 2021.. it still feels like a new song.

I've had similar feelings about DMB last anything for the last decade lol.. Last show at the Gorge, last time playing with Boyd, last official summer tour, last show ever, last time I'll be able to see them due to impending doom that my life will be so busy with other things that I'll never get to again lol

Just straight fear/what if more than anything

    A few reasons,

With it being every other year- everyone is optimistic the band has a lot of gas left in them but I mean who knows what 2026 will be like if there’s still a normal tour

Ticket sales in 2022 we’re down massively..like, half

Live Nation hates Alpine, constantly complaining it no longer can fill acts as well and have acted on that, I live in Wisconsin and the summer show quantities aside from Dave has been slowly dwindling. It’s a venue for bands, and with rock pretty much dying as everyone is older they’ve tried with some pop artists and edm but wasn’t that great.

Northerly Island sells very well, and unfortunately Summerfest being a festival is more appealing for ticket sales, it’d be easiest for them to just rid of alpine

Rock n Roll will never die! Long live Rock n Roll..

    lol

There are still a ton of artists/bands out there that could fill Alpine. Phish, Foo Fighters, RHCP, Green Day, Zac Brown, Jason Isbell, country acts etc..

"Rock" as we used to define it is pretty much dead, but is DMB really a "rock" band anyways?

I don't buy that that it's a venue that doesn't work.. I would buy that Live Nation doesn't like it for whatever reason.

I posted this in another thread also but here are my thoughts on this years tour. I think we'll see a Dave & Tim tour rather than a full band tour this summer. They're coming off South Africa tour and will be wrapping up the Europe tour in early May. The last time the full band toured Europe was in the spring of 2017 and that summer we saw a shortened D&T Tour. I don't know if history will repeat itself but I can't see them jumping right in to a full summer tour right after Europe. I could be wrong here but I think they'll hit the brakes a bit this year and ease it up with D&T.

I really try not to be the jaded old guy who hates new things but all the new rock/metal music I hear on the radio is AWFUL. I cannot see how anyone would connect with it whatsover. And while country and pop are not really my thing I hear new stuff and I get why it would be popular.

2017 the entire year was a year off for the full band. Dave and Tim toured Europe in spring of 2017 and USA in Summer of 2017. They actually played more shows as a duo in one year than they ever have.

Only full band show in 2017 was forced due to the horrible event in CVille that year.

Absolutely agree. But the remaining Gen X bands of the 90's are the new classic rock bands.. They're filling a role in that gap. I mean Foo Fighters are playing stadiums this summer. I don't really like or dislike them, but they don't really have huge recent hits. It's surprising to me they are doing stadium shows.

Alpine has a ton of Open space seating though I don't think bands have to officially sell out there to make it profitable. 37,000 vs say 19,000 -22,000 at an arena or typical sized amphitheater.

There was a full band European tour in the spring of 2019, followed by a full band summer tour. 2017 was Europe was D&T, not full band. Also, 2017 was announced as a non-touring year, just like 2011 was (although we got D&T and caravans respectively). If the full band was taking the summer off, it would have been announced last year, like it was in 2010 and 2016. 2024 will be a full band summer tour, don't overthink it.

    Predictions for 2024:

Everyday will be back in regular rotation
MME will be played almost every show in the 4 or 5 spot
So Damn Lucky will continue to close a handful of shows
One Sweet World will open more than it did in 2023
Brickhouse and Sledgehammer will continue for yet another year
Straight Shot will be in regular rotation in the 1-5 spot

I think Rashawn was one that wanted Jimi Thing to go into Brick House last year. He probably didn't like Buddy doing that awesome keyboard stuff during the Jimi Outro. Rashawn just doesn't understand what made this band a hit in the 90's and early 2000's.

Yawn. I pray to god they fix OSW before bringing it back. I love that song so much but out of every DMB song Jeff has absolutely not been able to bring any soul into it since 2008. So choppy and now with a trumpet even worse.

MME will not go away. Maybe slightly less play but would still put money on it being a top 5 played song

ABI and Busted Stuff might stick around from 2023

WATM songs will get dialed back a bit and no doubt Dave will cling to playing the turds like AYWWT instead of just sticking to the good ones

My hot take since everyone is pessimistic that it disappeared forever is that Cha Cha will return and get another ~10 plays or so
