There's only 32 days until the season starts. I'm glad we'll be back to a normal schedule. This year obviously isn't as bad as last but it's still a short off season

injuries this year gonna be crazy

but last year’s ratings and revenue showed some hard truths about the schedule

no one cares about the NBA even with a short season and no competition in summer months. going on vacation and doing fun stuff > watching games.

gonna be a hard fall when LeBron James retires

NBA will be in football’s shadow for at least the rest of our lifetimes, and that’s ok for the most part. the cap and BRI seem to be growing steadily, so the league is healthy at least on an international level

if the NBA doesn’t shorten the season they will likely have to resort to gimmicks like tournaments and random stuff like a 4 point line to maintain attention of the domestic audience (in the coming decades)

international teams are almost a necessity in the decades to come

NBA Reddit doesn't want to hear it but people largely don't care about the Jokics of the world. The media's pet project of Zion hasn't really taken off.

Man, I'm so happy that franchise and its fans have a passionate owner who is willing to spend instead of fucking Donald Sterling.

JJ was one of those guys i used to not like, probably because of his Duke playing days. Then he gets traded to Philly, i get to know him better and realize he's a great guy/player. Same thing with Bryce Harper.

I've never followed a career of an athlete more closely. He's my fave player ever and I've been watching him almost half my life.

I was a Duke fan, so obviously loved him. But he was definitely one of those guys you would hate if he wasn't on your team. He had a cockiness to him.

But yeah, generally a really good dude and one of the best shooters ever. Going to miss watching him so much.

ESPN Sources: Philadelphia 76ers All-Star Ben Simmons will not report for opening of training camp next week and intends to never play another game for the franchise. Simmons hasn’t spoken to team since a late August meeting when he communicated this message to Sixers officials.

    Re: The NBA Thread

i mean, this was a match made in hell.

Simmons always had a mental block shooting. anyone who has paid attention since 2016 has this intel.

no one in the Sixers staff or front office (old or new regime) ever held him accountable, and it was swept under the rug because of what he brings in transition and defensively

he gets scapegoated for one series (rightfully so, but conveniently forgetting all the other bad things from that series- Rivers’ lineups, Green injury, Embiid’s bad game 4, Harris’s inconsistency, Hill’s disappearing act, the terrible bench)

which leads to the national media pitchforks + Philadelphia pitchforks = bad news

of course he’s a convenient scapegoat so no one in the franchise defends him, so i feel zero sympathy for the franchise on that front

woops, his contract situation has all the leverage. i mean i think Simmons is a disgrace for not owning up to his performances and liabilities. i mean i could give a crap what he says in the public eye but it’s CLEAR he doesn’t work on his game or use his brain on the court. but he would be an idiot not to use this leverage, absolutely

ok so obviously Klutch has pulled this move before, and teams always back down. Simmons value is completely tanked at this point, so a trade makes 0 sense. Klutch has done similar things, but didn't guys like AD only have 1 year left? Further, his stock was going up. Simmons has 4 years and over $130mm left on his contract. Whats to stop the sixers from just saying "fuck you" to Klutch and Ben and letting him not show up, and not paying him? Simmons cannot afford to take 4 years off, with his stock going down already.

I don't want to hear about how that will hurt the relationship between Klutch and the Sixers, thus hurting future signings. That relationship is already fucked. How many dudes are going to continue to take Klutch's advice when they see Ben lose $130mm and 4 prime years?

it’s 2 staring contests- one with Simmons/Klutch and one with other teams

i think Simmons is winning the first one. as “better off” Philadelphia is without him, that dead money is just stupid to have on your books regardless of how deserved the “fuck you” is. trading dead money into something of any value is just common sense. whether he plays or not, Simmons is dead to the Sixers, literally in terms of value

his value is tanked so the other teams are waiting for Morey to lower his offer, while Morey is just waiting on that motherload of picks. eventually someone will blink, at the latest december 15 when newly signed players can be traded and some teams have some more clarity on who they are this year

yeah I didn't realize the dead money hit. I think that needs to be re-negotiated with the league at some point to balance the scales. Players should absolutely have more agency in their careers (MLB for instance is ridiculous)....but players signing a contract and refusing to show up shouldnt be happening, it's bad for the league

gonna be a tough negotiation. not really sure how to fix this. players can simply take the max and force a trade whenever. i mean, i suppose the only way is that max contracts cannot be traded in the first three years, but what incentive is there for the players association to agree to that idk
