I actually kind of see where you’re coming from… but it objectively makes the song better.

People want their Spoon to be a one-of for a tour but many more want to hear it who couldn't make that show.
The fans have a chance to hear it every time it is played but deserve it? No, that's not how this works.

As much as I love the DMBAlmanac the point at which the mass were looking at shows and songs as numbers is where I feel there was a large divergence in fans.

It’s obviously getting played in full at every stop it’s played at this tour. You would be content if the third verse is stopped being sung here on out? This isn’t entitlement if it’s a trend and people are now buying tickets to hear it. All so some people could pad their rarity stats is more like it. I’ve seen Spoon with Roi and hope it gets played more often.

I wouldn't feel one way or the other as the artists are free to do as they please in my opinion.

I feel it would be precisely entitlement if individuals are buying tickets simply to hear the verse and are disappointed when it doesn't happen. I have no idea if that is actually happening but it is a curious situation if so.

I totally agree from a studio version standpoint--I think the third verse is necessary to complete the song's narrative. I don't think it's as essential in a live setting, but still awesome to hear the song in its complete form.

First part - I don't get this mindset at all

Second part - nobody is doing so

I'd love to see some more Everyday/Stand Up songs on tour:

American Baybay, ABI, Old Dirt Hill, What You Are, Sleep to Dream Her, If I Had It All, Fool to Think

Hell, I'd take Stand Up, Smooth Rider, Everybody Wake Up, Dreamgirl and Steady as We Go for the sake of it.

I get what he's saying. There is not one DMB song that actually NEEDS to be over 10 minutes. You can find a great version of pretty much every DMB song that is under 10 minutes.

I would love to see this song liberated. I think the current lineup could deliver some really jazzy performances.

Sugar Will is an outright awful song. I hesitate to even call it a song as it's more of a soundcheck jam that they decided was good enough to play live.

And as bad as it was when it was played every show of the 2004 tour (except 2), it's so much worse now.

Sugar Will isn’t the best or worst. It lacks structure but that is because it is mostly a jam song. It never really moves once it starts, and there are no structural builds or anything. It stays where it starts.

2004 versions are orders of magnitude better than what we get today.

I can agree with this opinion. It never too off with me, so many people liked it that I sorta tolerated the pleads for it to come back. The '04 LTs are enough to satiate me for when we ever get a studio cut of it.

this is not directed specifically at you, as it's an opinion that's endemic to these boards, but

WHERE WERE THESE PEOPLE IN 2004? most people haaaaaaaaated this song back then, and then all it had to do was go away for awhile for people to clamor for it to come back

this dovetails into a greater point that people now look back a LOT more fondly on 2004 than those of us going to shows did at the time, but c'est la vie.

I do agree that the drop off was much more precipitous between 2004 and 2005 than it was between 2003 and 2004 but my eternal take is that there definitely is a much bigger dropoff between 2003 and 2004 than a lot of people here seem to see the way that I do

I think a lot of us were “positively” unsure of a lot of the music in 04. Coming off of epics like Grey Street, JTR, YNK, and the Lilly white debacle, 04 was a time of expansive uncertainty. Also, We were in some ways grinding away w the Iraq war and Bush presidency, which Dave focused alot of attention on. The time was just bizarre really. It was only going to get more bizarre w the release of stand up. But in 04 the songs seemed to have new flavor while holding onto some of the DMB vibe musically. I think a lot of us were trying to digest the songs, and were quiet. But when you compare the 04 songs to any of the tracks that came after, it’s easy to want them back.
