Ok, some things are indefinable. My favorite color is Green (except for when it is blue or red) and like you I cannot define why (except for the red, you gotta root for your team...even when they lose). But liking or not liking a specific song is not something that is inherently indefinable, IMO. Even if it is just a feeling you get that influences how you perceive the song, that is a reason to like/hate the song.
I'm not trying to change your opinion, but here is why I like this song. I like the musical flow of the song from a simple strumming pattern to a full band jam. I like the transition and how that is handled in the song, and I like the vocal melody. I think the lyrics aren't Dave's best but IMO they work for the song as a whole. I also read a little more into the words than the "kid learning to swim" direct interpretation.
On a scale of 1-10 I would rate the song a 6-7. By no means is it a classic in my mind, but it is a good song that I enjoy listening to.
Also, on the bolded; if you had sad that nothing would change your opinion, that would be fine (and accurate as far as I would know). But the way you worded it makes it seem like you are stating facts, which is not right. music is subjective, the most you can have is an opinion.
