I was into metal long before DMB. I didn't start listening to DMB until the later part of 2000 or so. My two favorite bands are DMB and Pantera.

yeah, hair metal. i mean, some of the best metal albums came of the 80s (master of puppets, reign in blood, dont break the oath, etc), but hair metal marred that. like breaking a toe durring an orgasm.

I was a MASSIVE fan of nu-metal, but started getting out of it for heavier grindcore/metalcore/math metal stuff. Norma Jean (their first CD) is awesome, as is Dillinger Escape Plan. Zao is one of my absolute favorites. I haven't listened to much sludge other than Eyehategod, but I really like them. Dying Fetus is growing on me, too.

Dying Fetus is some sick shit. and nu-metal isnt too bad when you get to the original bands that did it, like Slipknots first album and System Of A Down in general. Syd from Slipknot hugged me at Ozzfest '99

And honestly, I fucking LOVE Rammstein. I just fucking love them.

Funny you should mention Rammstein. I was kinda leaning towards metal back in the day, I saw the video for Du Hast, and I said, "These guys are awesome." They were really the first heavy band I was ever into. I still like my share of nu-metal. Try as I might, there are a lot of bands that I've loved for years that I just can't give up. Korn, Slipknot, SOAD, etc. I love their music (except SOAD's two new albums). I think Mastodon is very talented. Check out their Leviathan album if you haven't heard it, the tuning they use is sick.

I really dig on any singer who can cookie monster, too.

I still listen to a lot of Metallica particularily their first four albums before Black Album and the binge & purge live albums, and I love Maynard's stuff both Tool and APC. I've really been listening to a lot of SOAD and Mudvayne lately too.

Other stuff I used to listen to alot back in the day but haven't in a while was Pantera, Obituary, Slipknot, korn, Machinehead...

Reading the other posts in the thread makes want to check out some of the bands I'm not that familiar with.

I saw Prong open for Danzig a while back, that was a HOT show. And i remember, in my pre-metal days, listening to the radio and hearing "One night only... Pantera... Sepultura... and PRONG". That wouldve been a fucking sick show to see. But i did see Pantera twice, so im good with that (one time opening for Sabbath. Holy fuck)
