Absolutely.

Everyone's expecting Apple to make their announcement at their WWDC conference in mid-June, with the phone becoming available soon after that.

All the rumored specs so far make it very worth waiting just one month.

    Apple's WWDC was today.

The new iPhone 3.0 OS has 100 new features.

The new iPhone called the iPhone 3GS (S stands for speed) is being released June 19th.

The new pricing for the iPhone is as follows:
    iPhone 3G [8GB] - $99
    iPhone 3GS [16GB] - $199
    iPhone 3GS [32GB] - $299

The 3GS's have a new camera.

Features tap-to-focus. Tap on the part of the photo you want to focus, and it automatically does so. Automatically handles exposure and white balance. Better low-light sensitivity as well. Also, auto-macro -- as close as 10cm away. The camera application has a switch that lets you swap between still photo and video mode. 30FPS, VGA with audio, auto-focus, auto-white balance, auto-exposure. The videos live alongside photos in the same application. You can scrub a video and edit it too. You can share the video right from your iPhone 3GS to YouTube, MobileMe, MMS, and email.

    Thanks.

What's worse is that it was stolen out of her LOCKED office after she forgot it at work one night.

We've talked to the building manager but she's not doing a damn thing. Only TWO people have keys to her office after hours. Plus, the thief made calls on it, and we have the numbers so you'd think it'd be pretty damn easy to figure out who took it. Called the police and filed a report, but obviously they have much more pressing matters to investigate.
I've thought about confronting those two people, but that would probably just end with my going to jail.

What's yet another kick in the balls is that we payed full price for our phones. We had recently upgraded to different phones, so we didn't qualify for the discount you get when you sign a new contract.

People do, indeed, fucking suck at life.

The cleaning crew is a husband and wife couple, I'm thinking more along the lines of following them home one night and stealing their dog. If they don't have a dog, maybe I'll just set their house on fire.

These updates to the hardware are pretty mediocre.
Increased storage from 16-32GB is nice.
Better Camera and video capabilities are good, but not important to me.
voice activated controls are nice, but rarely used in my experience.
Speed wasn't a big issue to me with the #g and the battery improvements are pretty mediocre.

I got the 3G in March, so I can't upgrade for awhile..but don't think I'm missing too much.

They announced a new thing today where you can erase all the contents from the phone and disable it from your computer if it gets stolen. Doesn't help get the phone back, but sure would be nice to know no one is getting my address book and stuff if this happens.

Anyway, that's an awful story. So sorry.

Today's updates gave me the impression that the next generation iPhone and OSX are gonna be sweet, but these new releases are kind of fillers until that next update.

New iPhone keeps the exact same form factor as the current one with no blow you out of the water additions like 3G and the App store like the last upgrade, and Snow Leopard doesn't show any cosmetic changes (Marble?) or feature additions. I hope they intend to implement marble before another 2-year break till the next OSX release.

And the naming...3GS seems so half-assed for Apple's standards.

    Exactly.

I'm very excited for the 3.0 Software and hardware releases. I have the first gen and I couldn't be more pleased with the upgrades. the camera, video recording, compass (def. will be handy with gps apps)...it's a solid upgrade. For those of you with the 3g, you'll just miss out on some of the newer features but I think that's how it'll go. Obviously at this time next year you guys will be sitting pretty with v.4 and I'll be waiting another year.

And for anyone looking at laptops, the upgrades today were awesome. Very aggressive pricing and upgrades.

And as a side note to all this good news.....

ATT's such an awesome company that they can't have MMS and tethering ready to go at launch. Dumb f***s.

I don't even care that much about tethering, but come on MMS? Every other flippin' phone has it, you've known since march that this was coming and yet you don't have your accounts 'updated' or whatever BS you want to feed us? Apple should royally screw ATT over when their contract is up next summer.

Nope, aside from the upgrade on the software to v. 3.0. $9.99 for current iPod Touch owners.

New Touch hardware will likely be announced in September as Apple has adopted an annual cycle with ipod updates ahead of the holiday season and iphone updates in mid summer.

If you have MobileMe they have a "Find My Phone" feature now. If the phone gets lost or stolen. You just log into MobileMe and it will show you exactly where your phone is on Google Maps. I think they said it even puts a message on your phone with contact info or something of that sort.

If you don't want people having access to your contacts, e-mails, ect. You can send a remote wipe. Just make sure you backup your iPhone a lot so you won't lose anything if you recover it.

Absolutely. It wasn't a coincidence that apple announced and showed the names and/or logos of the companies that were ready to go. ATT dropped the ball. And they're about to get pounded with a punch of bad PR. Apple will be holding ATT by the balls and dangling the next iPhone in the face of Verizon come next year.

Even with this mms/tethering debacle, Apple's even closer to locking down the smartphone market.

    This is false.

They will never have the smartphone market "locked down", business users still prefer the Blackberry.

I work at AT&T and apparentely all accounts with iphones were provisioned with a feature called "MMS OPT OUT" and they need to find a way to remove them from all the accounts...

That is what they tell us anyways...it's bull shit because their is no such feature as MMS OPT OUT...We have DATA OPT OUT and TEXT RESTRICT but you can't block MMS...In order to block MMS, you have to have DATA OPT OUT but DATA OPT OUT blocks internet and obviously every one can acesss the internet on their iphone since they are required to have a 30 dollar data plan so what the hell?

It's so ridiculous....instead of spending all this time figuring out how to wipe this non existent feature from all the accounts, they could have just thrown over time at their employees and had them remove them individually by now....

Nothing makes sense at AT&T anyways...After working their for 6 months, I cannot believe that they are in business...

Not true...The only reason business customers use blackberrys over iphone is because they offer the blackberry free to business customers and they offer an unlimited intl data plan for 65 a month and the iphone only has a 200MB intl plan for 230 a month....Until yesterday, the cheapest you could get an iphone for was 200 dollars....Do you think a business account with 20 thousand lines like boeing is going to spend 4 million dollars on iphones for everyone...Hell no, not when they can get 20,000 blackberrys for free.

A lot of business customers travel intl so the blackberry is ideal for unl internet....

Also, ATT can offer early upgrades and free blackberrys like candy but with an Iphone, unless you are eligible for a FULL upgrade or it's a new activation, you can't do shit about it....ATT will lose their contract if some rep does an early upgrade for an iphone...

No shot at it unless Apple wants to give away the Ipones for free. Not to mention the learning curve from a blackberry to an Iphone with the touch screen and all. BB is like Windows in the business world. They have multiple handsets and Apple only has one product. Much like Windows is on multiple platforms. You can buy a type of blackberry to fit what your needs require. You are stuck with one Apple phone.
