Re: Random dmb thoughts that don't need their own thread

What were the Blackjack/Be Yourself/Plastic Girl's of the 1990's? What did the fans back then really dislike, considering how so many of us look back to those shows as being rather flawless?

Probably like true reflections. In the earlier 90s I don’t think spotlight was well received. Most of the songs were great then. I feel like hardcores probably groaned at satellite too, but that’s about it. By the way the songs you mentioned are absolutely embarrassing. The songs from the 90s that I mentioned aren’t close to embarrassing level. Just totally different times.

I wrote that in another thread, also:

Today I went back to listening 2011.06.26 - Atlantic City Drive-In show, which I completely lost when it came out.

I couldn't believe they cut out 44 seconds of Boyd when building up the solo of "Seek Up".

Does anyone know if there are other cases like this?
The only one that comes into my mind is the dubbing of Squirm in Live at Hollywood Bowl (another blasphemy).

I wondered why it did happen to force the video editors to cut that part. If, for example, Boyd made one of his typical faults, or if there was a problem somehow.
So I got the cropped part from taped audio/video and inserted in the original Drive-In video, in order to have a sort of "Uncut version" of the song, where you can see, from min 12', the solo part that was taken out.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rx9eFB5gQPI

You can judge by yourself if Boyd's solo deserved to be cut.

It seems like I can remember a handful of times where things were fixed in post-production but this might be the first where a section/solo was outright cut? My memory is awful, maybe I'm forgetting other cases.

I wonder if theyll ever play bristow again. That said, since 21 dates are in, will they post the 2022 schedule this spring? Wonder if bands are already trying to fill those time slots. What will the rumors thread look like this year.

Why wouldn’t they play there again?
It is actually kinda shocking they stepped down capacity wise to begin with. Must have got a hell of a deal

No, no one is booking 2022 now. If anything they are looking at options for if 2021 is a bust but not a complete new tour on top of 21

I am re-listening it now, after a long time (6 years according to the app statistics).

I must admit that - in this case - the mixing engineers have done a great job.
Boyd sounds so clean, no skreeks... just perfect.

This is probably one of my favorite version of Lie In Our Graves, at the end.

Me too! Love the vocal delivery in the second chorus a lot. And how they jam out a bit at the end. One of my favorite versions for sure.

I'm not sure if any of you merged both of the Live from home requests that Dave did, but I'd be curious to see if anyone else made their own playlist out of the 2; kind of like a show. I did, looking to see if others did.

So even though DMB is one of my faves, I really don't find myself listening to them all that much, but in getting some late night work I'm spinning some live cuts and listening to people sing in Everyday from Luna Park is REAALLY hitting me how much I've missed live music this year. Especially hearing the crowd sing, ugh I can picture the Bristow tailgate crew, all of us in the pit crew singing. Guess at month 9 the quarantines' finally getting to me

That'd be a pretty sweet live set!

And I know it completely sucks that we can't go out and see live music, but I have to admit - we've gotten some pretty cool things that we might not have gotten if it weren't for the situation we're in.

If the powers that be that manage this band’s releases ever browse these forums, please please please please bring back the DMBLive series. There’s many a show with Blue Waters and People, People that I and many here would lose their minds over that we knew were getting!

    God damn.

I was listening to Dive In this morning — is the point of the first verse that humans are on the same path as the bears? "Their homes were turning to water"

I've always interpreted as two separate comments about climate disaster, but that thought popped in my head. Make of it what you will

one of the most chilling (and best) lines Dave has ever written. i've played GS a few times during open mics and always insert this line during the build up during the last chorus

Before 2001, really the only song intensely disliked by the majority was True Reflections. Lots and lots of people called it their piss break/beer song throughout Nancies.org. Then Everyday was released. Everyone intensely hated most of those songs. Now here we are with songs sprinkled throughout the catalog that people hate.

It's live streaming. Dave was supposed to come back and play another song, but e may have missed it...had to watch a Charlie Brown Christmas. I haven't been able to navigate beyond the live stream.

Ocean and the Butterfly was just played. Dave said goodbye afterwards, so I think he's done for the night. Once they're done we might have access to playback.
