You must be confusing country music with what is considered "country" this day in age.

The genre is quite amazing if you listen to the legit stuff.

Just like all genres, some of it is good, some bad. One of the best concerts I've ever seen (besides DMB) was a Garth Brooks show in 1997.

The only people I'll ever listen to was the older Brad Paisley and Kenny Chesney. That's it. They are very good. I'm almost tempted to see Brad Paisley at the Xcel soon just to watch him play guitar.

This is a flawed poll.

You can respect certain music, for the artistry that goes into producing it. But you may not like it. For example, I respect opera but it's not something to which I like to listen.

The pop shit that is popular today that they try to pass off as country music? No the fuck no.

But, if it's Johnny Cash, alt-country, anything that is NOT what is today. Then yes, I do.

Yea, this is a stupid poll. It's like me saying I hate rock because I don't like screamo and death metal.

The country that is popular now is extremely watered down, mixed with pop elements so it appeals to the basest audience.

Real country from the 50s-70s, etc is badass, as is alt-country (which is arguable more rock than country, I know). Even the legit old-school country is not my favorite, but it is certainly a great genre if you delve deep into it.

Probably because I don't live in the upper portion of the country, which is where 90% of the hockey fanbase lives. But that is for a different thread.

you wouldn't know this unless you actually listened to REAL country. such as: Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Merle Haggard, Waylon Jennings, Hank Williams, Loretta Lynn, George Jones, Kris Kristoferson...

I've heard folks say, oh, but Cash is Southern Rock... NO... Marshall Tucker, is southern rock, Lynyrd Skynyrd is southern rock, NOT Johnny Cash and Willi Nelson.

So, Taylor Swift= Pop music. Keith Urban= Pop Music. Kenny Chesney= God knows what that awful stuff is... he's a wannabe rock star. Brad Paisley= COUNTRY.

Basically, if country music was still country music, i'd like it. SO, i LOVE country music, but not, todays "country" music.

i play college football and this statement is somewhat offensive because football is actually a cerebral sport, as one person i know once referred to it as, a game of human chess. a bad play call, misread etc could inevitably lead to a loss. there is a hell of a lot more strategy that goes into this game than most people realize. /rant

I used to HATE! country. Then I discovered Ryan Adams. Fell in love with his countryish tones. Then I fell in love with WhiskeyTown which was another band he was in for years.

They play country. I slowly started liking it. Now I love them. Discovered The Drive By Truckers. Love them. I always loved old folky/country, ie: Woodie Guthrey ect...

So yea, I can now say I like country.
