Re: 2022 Poster Discussion

In Dallas and again think the normal $60 poster looks a lot better than the fancy $150 foil one. Which I guess my wallet appreciates, lol.

    Re: 2022 Poster Discussion

For me, and this is just my opinion, foils are similar to the 3D movie craze of the late 00's and early 10's. At one time everything released was in both a regular format and a 3D format. Now we are seeing more and more posters with both a matte and foil option.

There are some great posters that lend themselves well to the foil format, and others that do not. I saw both the Red Hot Chili Peppers and DMB this past week, and passed on both foil variants of the show poster (both matte + foil were readily available at the merch booth close to show time). The foil washed out the colors and took up too much of the poster canvas. To me, the best use of the foil variant is when it is primarily a background accent to the design and colors of the original matte print. See below, for the RHCP San Antonio poster, which I do not believe lends itself well to the format, and their Phoenix poster, which does translate well with a foil.

Yes, I do have a couple of foils in my collection, but at today's prices, I need to love the particular foil variant to justify the cost.
