That's a 2000? I hadn't even realized that. It is really good. My 2nd favorite stone.

Not sure why people keep saying 9/2/00 Stone [DMB Live25] is best. It's certainly solid, but I don't get what makes it so special. The best part of the song imo – the "bury the past" verse after the 2nd chorus – is weak because Carter doesn't go nuts the way he usually does. Can someone explain what makes this one "best."

Re the SPAC 09 Stone, I was actually there and while it was an incredible moment, I don't actually think it's the best performance of the song. My dark horse #1 Stone is from 9/14/03: https://youtu.be/g95GZw9cv0E?t=1h34m

That said, SPAC 09 Stone is a touchstone performance so I'm glad it's getting a release.

I would rather hear The Stone ( widely recognized as the greatest DMB song ever by most fans) with LeRoi rather than with Jeff. I don't care what venue it's played in. Except for Jiffy Lube Live, everything played their sucks.

You actually made my point for me. You are certainly able to provide your opinion, everyone has their opinion of their 'favorite version', but your declaration of "the best ever" (multiple times) was silly. That's all.

I'm cool with that. But by default the best version of the Stone with Jeff isn't as good as the best version with Roi. Period.
Why is that? Was Roi more talented than Jeff is or something? They each put their own spin on songs. Why is it not possible to like the sound of some songs better with one of them and some songs better with the other?

There is no Stone without Roi. Jeff, while great, is covering Roi's music. Are you suggesting he is covering it better? Please tell me you are smarter then that? Sure, you can 'like' it better if you want, if that's your opinion, but he's not better at playing Roi's music then he is.

Well it's not like Roi always played it note for note the exact same as it is. So, even Roi wasn't playing Roi's music a lot of the time.

ps: the "then" in your last sentence implies a timeline, so if your last sentence were rephrased it would say "Jeff isn't better at playing Roi's music, and then he is better at playing Roi's music." So even you agree

Covers can be better than originals. That's not a difficult concept. I'm not saying it's the case here, but it's certainly possible. Just like it's possible for DMB 3.0 to put the best individual performance of a song.

So by your logic, no one can play a better violin on a DMB song than Boyd because they'd be covering him?

    Sounds good.

I mean I love Roi as much as the next hardcore DMB fan, but i'd stay have to say Jeff is overall more musically trained and talented. That being said I do think Roi's sound fit in a little better than Jeff.
I don't remember who said it first but it really rings true.
Roi made love to the music, Jeff fucks the shit out of it.

So if I renewed in August, I’ll receive vol. 6 next month, and when I renew this August I’ll receive vol. 7 in September? That’s how I’m understanding it.

Edit: Nevermind, I missed the part that said vol. 6 is shipping in the spring.

I only listen to Stones with Jeff Coffin on them. 2008-present versions absolutely blow anything before 2008 out of the water. In my opinion, it's a better song now that its ever been. The whole "It cant be better because Roi isn't on it" is the dumbest argument I have ever heard recycled on these boards...It's almost as bad as the pre-2013 argument of "they'll never play #34 again because it was Roi's song."

Other than stone, bartender, and FTT are there any actual standout songs that make these unique performances or are we getting pretty standard versions?

two good discs. the 2017 disc looks fantastic. with all the love the hershey 2006 songs got, i wish they would just release the entire show. it deserves it, and its obvious people like the songs from it.

i wouldn't say giving a list of ~21 songs with dates to members to vote on and then taking 80% of the songs from that list is really a call for kudos to the WH. while they did make some good selections on dates for some songs, the vote was pretty pointless if they took the vast majority of the list anyway. if the 2017 disc was what was voted and that was it, then ya, good job WH. but then they just took the leftovers and threw them onto another disc and called it 2018. thats lazy. should have made a new list, even if the ones that didnt make the 2017 disc were on the new list, with songs replacing the ones already voted for and do another vote. maybe add in some other popular write ins to the list and then see what gets voted for the 2018 disc.

So I think it's fair to say vote count wasn't relevant. Perhaps they already knew what they wanted to select but wanted us to feel like we had a say in it.
when they took 80% of their own list and made 2 discs out of it, i'd say they pretty much knew what they wanted on there. look at the songs that didn't make the cut from the list. a second warehouse and a second grey street. really, only one song was cut, and that was YNK, because they weren't going to put two of anything on the two discs. they needed something to fill in the rest of the space, so they did the write ins.

i know the WH has the louie louie interpolation. all the 2006 performances are solid. i was at both scranton and hershey that year, so im pretty familiar with those shows. they're solid picks.

Jeff may be more technical but I mean he can’t touch Roi when it comes to being in DMB so who really cares about the technical stuff. That said I think he’s limited given all the instruments on stage

    5 piece plz

i remember it being great in the moment, certainly a highlight. but i don't remember it lasting with me when i've listened to it in 2010. i think it's still a great cut, but i don't think it's the best without roi's baritone. roi's entrance on the song hasn't been matched by jeff's, IMO

what i love about the stone is the range. it really highlight's everyone. rocking bass line. carter's drums are with purpose. dave's riff. boyd's underplay. roi's transition between low's and high's. even butch played within the song when he was there. i think that range is very suppressed right now.

whether it's because of what's going on stage or not,

I think that stone is worshipped because dave sings elvis. I remember people going bat shit crazy when he sang it. A very awesome moment

Not to mention it was a surprise in of it self for being played. As we know, it’s not in rotation nearly enough

The 6/27/08 Two Step from Hershey should've been the one to make it.
