It's excellent. A very rich beer, but I don't know what to compare it to. It's about the size of a champagne bottle, so if you manage to down one by yourself you'll be in good spirits. However, I'm not sure if they're making it anymore. It was so popular in 2003 that they brewed it up again for 2004, but I don't know if there is/are 2005/06 brews. I'll check it out next time I'm around Cooperstown. Ommegang is like heaven.

comparable to Boulevard Wheat ... alan?

i'm a bartender but not much of a drinker. (we only have 4 beers on tap anyway -- we're a restaurant with a little bar to sit at while you wait for your to-go order -- bud light, miller light, new castle, boulevard wheat ... and 1919 root beer ) i normally drink michelob golden draft light, but when i feel like drinking something with actual taste i do the blvd. we've got blue moon in bottles (and you guys are right about the orange) but i'm a broke college kid, so i don't do much drinking anymore. i get 2 freebies after work and the "premiums" aren't included.

There is something so great about sitting down at your favorite tavern after a hard day or week and having that first beer of the day. So relaxing.

Bells and Rogue are the two greatest beers in production today, end of story. Seriously, unless you have tried both I consider you a serious beer novice.

My buddies and I clone yeast from the above two breweries, and use them as the base to make our own brews. Right now we are on the slow brew kick:

Imperial Stout - in secondary for 14 months
Belgian Noble - secondary for 6 months, bottle conditioned for another year
Barley Wine - secondary for 8, bottle for 6

Only thing better than a fine home brew, is some home grown, outdoor mary jane, fresh and sticky.

I'm not a beer snob as far as drinking it goes. If i'm at a party and the keg is shitty beer, i'm not going to run out and grab my own 12. However, I am a snob as far as what I categorize as "good" beer. I drink Lonestar on a regular basis, but I know quite well that it is of a slightly higher quality than horse piss.

There are beer snobs out there. Those who only drink their pricey imports or whatever and those who don't even drink beer, but fruiti tuti drinks. I made it through many keg parties at school choking down Keystone Light...after about 3 cups and a few bongs it all tastes the same and I made it out alive. Although I would rather have been drinking my faves as mentioned before. Just take the $5 dollar a cup beer and quit the bitchin'
At least that is what I think...I am no expert, I just like the stuff no matter what!

I agree with you on the party beer. Hell, I drink anything.

I just have to tell people that Sam Adams is not the best beer out there. ( not knockin Sam Adams, always one of my go to's).

Anybody in here ever tried homebrew? I just brewed a 5 gallon batch. It is fairly simply. The beers should be ready to drink by Thursday with full carbonation. I am excited to try new recipies. It cost much less to brew your own if you have patience and don't binge yourself like crazy.

I brew all the time. I just bottled a Vanilla Stout which is really good. There's a thread with a couple of my recipes:

I don't consider myself a snob, but I do brew my own beer so I have an appreciation for beer with good flavor. Fact is that Bud, Miller, Coors have there place in the beer world but are not very complex in flavor. When I drink beer I want to be able to savor and enjoy every sip.

That being said, my favorite beer (at the moment) is Dogfish Head 90 Minute IPA. Rogue makes some great beers, Dominion Oak Barrel Stout is amazing, among many others. I also like the Belgian beers like Chimay and Delerium.

Re: A Place on Ants for Beer Drinkers

I like Corona alot. Especially drinking outside in the summertime. My normal drink is Miller Lite though. Mostly b/c it'd inexpensive, bars run specials on it all the time, every bar/restaurant has it, and it's one of the lowest in calories/carbs so I don't have to feel bad about drinking alot of them.

That said I just tried Yuengling Black and Tan recently and I'm a big fan. I also like Guiness and I've liked different darker/heavier microbrews I've tried.

I know a lot of people look down on light beers but I don't mind the taste and if I'm gonna drink 10 beers one night I'd rather they be ten 96 cal/3.2 carb Miller Lites than ten 166 cal/15 carb Amber Bochs (which are also delicious). Over 10 beers I end up with a 700 cal/118 carb difference. Beer is my drink of choice I just don't want a beer gut! haha ... The calories are a pretty big deal but the carbs are huge. Even if you aren't doing a low carb diet you should watch how many carbs you take in. They are a good source of energy if you are gonna work out later that day. However, your body will burn calories at night but it usually doesn't break down carbs while sleeping it just turns them into fat. So taking in a lot of carbs right before you go to bed is very bad. If you can stick to lower carb beers you can help avoid the neg effects of beer on your weight.

Here's some stats on a few beers (% alcohol, calories, carbs)

    Some of my favorites:

New Belgium 1554, Sunshine, Fat Tire,(Loft is ok).
    Pyramid: Apricot Ale(weizen), Hefeweizen
    Coors: Blue Moon
    Tommyknocker: Maple Nut
Odell Brewing: Easy Street Wheat, 90 Schilling.

I do Homebrews too so a lot of those are my favorites but I will usually go with the above when I want to have a few drinks.
