Re: Favorite Musical

Just got home from Waitress with Sara Bareilles and Jason Mraz together. Friggen amazing. If you can find tickets within this six week run they are doing together, I could not recommend it enough. At one point in the show I forgot I was on broadway and felt like I was at a Sara Bareilles show. She did too because she dropped her accent for the entire song

They both came out to sign for the fans afterwards and couldn’t be nicer. My wife was the first person Sara signed for and they had a nice little convo. Fantastic evening overall.

Wow. Saw waitress. Their duets were wonderful. I waited to get their autograph and say thanks. Mraz was funny. The no slefie rule but he was like “quick oh no I’m getting awayyyy.” Just had to be there I guess

Wish I wasn’t dumb and saw Jessie mueller in it. Have been YouTubing some of her bootlegs and man she was stellar

    Re: Favorite Musical

Saw Les Miserables for the first time on Saturday in upstate NY, it was incredible, now tied with Phantom of the Opera as my two favorites. I knew going into it that One Day More would be a huge song and a big highlight which it was, but my favorite song ended up being Bring Him Home which I didn't see coming. I thought the performance of that song being sung on the barricade had slightly more emotion behind it, didn't realize until pulling up a YouTube video that Nick Cartell who plays Valjean lost his mother recently and he sings that song partly for her.

    Of the ones I've seen:

    Hamilton
    Oklahoma
    Doonesbury
    Little Shop of Horrors
    The King and I
    The Lion King

    Of those I haven't:

    West Side Story
    Fiddler on the Roof
Evita...the original cast recording is excellent

It's just funny, a lot of people in this thread have said Rent is their favorite, I could see that in early April for 40.00. I would never pay over 550.00 for any musical play as much as I love them.

idk what's funny about it. i'd see rent for $40 if i could

i've scored numerous pairs of hamilton tickets for friends ranging from $190-240. if you wanna go, just get them when they're on sale and it's pretty affordable, relatively-speaking

I paid around $500 total for two tickets to see the original cast of Dear Evan Hansen and I don't regret it for even a single second. Paid about $250ish to see Jason Mraz and Sara Bareilles together in Waitress... also don't regret a single cent spent. I'd personally rather spend big bucks on Broadway to see the big shows because in the grand scheme of showbiz and entertainment, the "prime" runs are so short (as in original cast, well into their comfort level with the show).

That being said... don't know that I'd do it for Hamilton so I guess my whole statement means dick

, there are just so many other things I would rather do for that money, but I do love the plays and I'm already looking for what upcoming options there are in New England.

On a separate note, one thing I found a bit confusing with Les Miserables is having multiple "young Cosette" actors who had dark hair and that includes the one who sang Castle on a Cloud. Then later on Cosette is an adult with blonde hair and much more fair skin, the two actors couldn't look more different. Considering the symbol / image of Les Miserables is a blonde haired Cosette, I feel like this role should always be played by a girl with blonde hair, especially if the adult Cosette getting married is going to in the play ... or at least wear a wig, keep it the same.

Has anyone seen Chess? I've been listening to One Night in Bangkok a lot since I randomly discovered it a few months ago.

I heard there's a revival of it coming, I may go to NYC to check it out. I want to see it now that the song is stuck in my head.

I spent $49 for my dear Evan Hansen ticket. I paid 212 face for Mraz+Bareilles. I wouldn’t spend that type of money for Hamilton (500) or whatever but I’d buy one of the 250 or less face value tickets despite it being well past original cast

Saw frozen tonight (thanks superstorm Riley). Scored cheap mezzanine tickets. It was decent. Not sure if because previews or Bc it just isn’t adapted well. Was overall decent tho

Was just talking to someone over the weekend about scoring theater seats during big storms. It never dawned on me until they mentioned it that seats for shows go unused during these times, like on Thursday and Friday, when flights and other mass transit are canceled and people can't get to their destination.

Anyone giving Jesus Christ Superstar a shot on NBC tonight?

Lots of heavy theatrical hitters clearly. Music is really good. John Legend sounds great too but I thought maybe he was lipsynching there a bit. The internet says he is not. Audio might have beer off.

I know the performers need a break to catch their breath/get some water with such big numbers, but God damn the commercial breaks were like 8 minutes long at the beginning. That's where they lost me.

I bet it’s unwatchable. I’m on delay TiVo for that reason.

I don’t know about anyone needing breaks though. All these guys act and sing this in theaters as their career.

Rent or buy the movie to anyone that likes it. It’s just my absolute favorite.

I don’t know about anyone needing breaks though. All these guys act and sing this in theaters as their career.

Yeah I guess I phrased it wrong. I don’t think they need one so much as if the producers need to sell ads they conveniently will agree to breaks.

    Totally.

And weak. Get a few sponsors and do it commercial free. You can’t have commercials in a theatrical performance.

A+ for Superstar on NBC. I had zero expectations.

Brandon Dixon was amazing, stole the show. Sara Bareilles too, and whoever played Pilate. The whole cast was great. Not a weak link.

I saw Alice Cooper's entrance. That was pretty rad, the respect from the crowd.

Another note, that venue looked fucking dope. the crowd was RIGHT on top of the performance.
