Yeah, when I relayed this story to my wife she just looked at me, dumbfounded, and said, "Wait, you just showed up with nothing and you walked out with a license and you didn't think anything was wrong with that?" I had to admit that it didn't even cross my mind until she brought it up.

Yeah, it's just weird. I get that you were just doing an address change but to not have to show any proof of address change is a little odd. Even I would have expected to provide that, at minimum!

I didn't even recall this Real ID stuff so I looked it up. Looks like Georgia has been doing this since 2012. I've had like 4 or 5 new licenses since then Y'all carrying some really old licenses or just live in states that were later to the party?

Why have you had that many licenses in the last 7 years? We only have to renew ours here once every 7 years.

This is very interesting only because I just learned about the Real ID on my last trip to the DMV. To think the concept has been around almost eight years seems odd.

Yeah, real ID has been around for a while but not all states were ready to enforce it. I think it was 2014 or 15 when the TSA was going to make it mandatory by the end of the year. That didn’t quite work out.

I don’t think it’s mandatory to have a real ID in NH yet. I just got mine renewed last year and it’s not ‘real’

pennsylvania had a state law that prevented the dmv from issuing REAL IDs. that just got lifted this year. the real ID has been "mandatory" for several years now but they issued waivers for several states. I finally got mine last month. I needed a new license after my move anyway.

...if you want to board a plane or enter a federal building without a passport. nobody has to get a real id, one will just be required in those instances.

They've pushed out the deadline a few times... wouldn't be surprised if they push it out again. When they were first going to require it (5 years ago I think), it was mayhem in my world. Seemed like they waited right up until the deadline to delay it also.

Our office closed today. Being a salaried employee I’m getting paid for the day without having to use PTO. Hourly employees have to use PTO or take the day without pay.

I used to love working these type of days... not many people bothering you so you could get shit done. I work with so many assholes in Europe now though that it doesn't matter anymore. Had a million fucking emails from yesterday to follow up on... at least a few of them did wish me a 'Happy Independence Day'.

So I get to sit here until 430ish.
