Could Hamilton de Holanda’s potential to accompany the DMBand this summer, & scheduling challenges, contribute to the missing shows that might (e.g., Stefan’s hint/tease via Twitter regarding MIA west coast & a few other staple venues), yet be announced? Just letting my mind wander ... all these discussions are speculation based on unofficial rumors - so, the sky’s the limit! Let it GO, bruthah!!!

Given the source’s history, I don’t know if I believe it anymore.

But Hamilton touring with the band would be the difference between me hitting 5 shows this year vs 2.

I’m guessing west coast could potentially be Kaaboo Del Mar just because Kaaboo is 9/13-9/15 and DMB would be headlining? Usually playing socal around early September, and with the extension of the tour to 9/22, it still makes sense as a potential date. Kaaboo lineups usually aren’t released until late March, so I guess we’ll find out whether this theory is true or not then.

All I can say is that I hope it's true. There was definitely an electricity boost when he was on stage at the Gorge. Dave was completely enamored with the guy, smiling at him the way he used to at Boyd in his solos. His sound works with the band trust me. If you haven't seen him live with them it might be hard to understand that admittedly.

The only problem with Hamilton is that I hope he doesn’t take ever damn solo. Need room for Buddy and Jeff to take solos.

Also, I wish Hamilton and Rashawn don’t vibe well and Rashawn quits. That would be great

Apparently he was trained at violin as a kid? Any chance of him playing violin?

Now wouldn't that be something... Bringing on someone who plays a new instrument AND violin. That way, they can have violin on for songs like Nancies and Billies, and leave it out of other tunes that don't use it as much. Meanwhile, on the violin-less songs, they can bring a new flavor in with a new instrument. Not that they need another musician on stage, but still.

Where did you find that out, btw?

If I'm being honest with myself, you're right.

The lack of violin has not and will not affect my show attendance, but it's still weird. It really hit me when the spot for the violin solo during #41 came up at a recent show.

At the same time, the band currently sounds like a better version of what it's been sounding like for the past 10 years anyway, for the most part. Not that an individual has to like how they sound right now or anything. But, Boyd was barely a factor in his last few years, aside from the obligatory solos in Billies, Nancies, etc. The biggest rub about losing a violin is that it affects the best songs in their catalog, but they are compensating nicely enough, IMO. Some songs better than others.

This would be great. I really like what he did on Last Stop last summer. A lot of sit-ins with DMB have people playing it safe, this dude went way out. Fuck, I might make the fucking trip to Mansfield ...

Always spend the 40 bucks for parking outside the venue!

Whitfield was out there and ripping on Captain at MSG too. Overshadowed by Warren, but just as good AND on a better tune. And I love Neil and Cortez is a killer tune (see what I did there?? ), but Captain is one of my favorite tLWS/BS tunes. Fonz's bassline is incredible.

Wait, is this the premier parking across the street from the hellacious lot or somewhere else? We did the premium parking last year and were out with 10-15, but I'm still down for a better way/quicker exit...barring leaving before the show's over.

Mark Whitfield is a bad, bad man. Brings the house down every time he guests with DMB.

For the past 3-4 years my group has been parking/tailgating at a private “lot” next door to the venue.

If you get off the highway and pass the venue main entrance on the right, you’ll go by a Cumberland farms; it’s the first residential house on the right. It’s essentially an old guy’s yard that he opens up for parking. Super sweet spot, nice and shady, no cops, no security, 10 minutes to the highway even with after show traffic.

Edit: this also includes staying for the encore

It really was stellar. It's equal was Hartford, if only because it was the first time we've seen it live and I had zero expectations of hearing it. Unfortunately a bunch of folks around were clearly unaware of what they were hearing.

tLWS/BS is probably my favorite album, that and RTT. The beginning/where it all started and arguably the peak of their creativity (despite all of the baggage).

Same here! Last year was our first year doing the Mansfield/Hartford b2b and my first time at Hartford, I didn’t really know what to expect from Hartford but I’ll be back; Captain ended up being probably a top 2 moment for me from the tour (behind SPAC JTR.)

But you’re right I had an aisle seat and the mass exodus to the bathroom was pretty disappointing

Yes, JTR SPAC...I turned to my wife absolutely speechless...mouth agape...I couldn't believe it. I was so happy. The funny thing is, I only know the LWS lyrics, so I was lost, but it's the harmony and melody of the song that are the most important.

    Definitely though, 2018's best moments:

    1) JTR...the Bartender...the Two Step encore closer @ SPAC
    2) Captain @ Hartford AND MSG
    3) SDL and VItR @ Mansfield
    4) Come Tomorrow & Raven b2b @ SPAC...they did themin the wrong order, but they two sides of the same coin.
    5) Say Goodbye (1st band for us) and Twoalloween @ C-ville

And there's a tone of other great moments, but these stand out.

Best part of SPAC JTR was I played it for my girlfriend on the driver over and said; "This is my unicorn song at the moment, if we have a shot at any venue; it's this one."

Funny that I was at all those moments except 5 and 4. I would have killed to see Twoalloween; if that makes me a frat boy so be it. Mohegan #41 Opener and then Say Bye>Stone are up there for me as well; 41 is what got me into the band like a lot of us and I never really thought I'd hear it open.

I didn't read the full thread, (flame away if this was mentioned), but, mandolin and violin are essentially the same instrument. Same tuning. Often times folks that play one can play the other, e.g. Sam Bush (Who would be fun to see guest with DMB).

DMB with a mandolin would create incredible music. Very excited at this prospect.

That was my proposal back we first heard about Boyd departing...not many people (if any) agreed. I think folks are being a bit myopic, but I don't begrudge them perspectives or opinions.

My wife and I miss the content of what was played far more than the instrument. I'd like to hear the missing parts, regardlessly of what instrument plays them. Cello, mandolin, banjo, acoustic guitar, ukulele, keyboards...whatever.

So is the Hamilton rumor dead? Is there anyone besides the person from DMBFam that can chime in with some reliable info?

If Mr. Holanda travels around with the band, I imagine it'll be on the level of Stanley Jordan making a variety of guest appearances with the band at a variety of stops a la '12 and '13. I don't see him traveling to every show like what Tom Morello did with Springsteen et al to guest on Ghost Of Tom Joad.

Nothing to add, I just wanted to say nice use of “a la” and “et al.” Haha

Tom Morello didn’t just guest on Joad that tour though, he played the whole show. I believe this was because Stevie was filming his TV show?
