Re: The Decision: Boyd Leaving DMB

I'm not sure it was in the running for a time - BT himself even said a month ago he was buzzing for the tour. Surely a last minute decision?

This really really sucks, especially with them being off last year.

It is however, an opportunity to see a different iteration and some creative arrangements maybe. I'm still excited.

    Bummer though.

This was something that the band has clearly known for some time.

The fact that they (presumably) asked Boyd to hold off until all the tickets were essentially sold is a really bad look. I get that it's a business, but that really doesn't sit well with me. Plenty of folks would have still bought tickets, but fans of 20+ years deserve to at least know who/what they're buying tickets for.

The timing is what makes this weird. Does kinda feel like the end of the band is real near now. I don't think they cancel the tour but maybe the last real one in a while.

Boyd, despite recent struggles, was my favorite band member. This band, as we know DMB, is absolutely done. Really sad day.

Given the timing this isn't a terrible hypothesis...but I think the DMB camp would have 'fixed' it by now.

I’m surprised there still hasn’t been a response by the band officially yet, but on the other hand what do they say? Drop some new music or announce a replacement?

sad to hear that things wont be the same, but the change could make a lot of songs fresh because they'll be forced to change the structures of the songs if they dont get someone to play violin. does this make 2018 the start of DMB 4.0?

i was thinking, the last time there was an announcement of a long time member leaving the band, another former member who hadn't been with the band for a while came back (2008). could this usher in the return of butch?

Wow. All the best to him, we all obviously want him to be healthy (although he just had a year off, which is a little confusing).

Selfishly, I've already spent a lot of money to go to The Gorge for the first time this year, and this is a huge bummer.

was Tim ever an “official” member of the band before 2008, though?

Completely agree. I would have still done my traditional Deer Creek weekend regardless, but the way it was handled is just......yuck.

The more I think about this the more I don' think it makes any sense that he was fired or a medical issue came up. I think he's off his rocker and this is 100% unplanned.

DMB camp wouldn't fire him right before a concert or a tour...if it was medical, he would have gone to DMB to figure out the best way to release the news.

I think he's lost it and DMB is scrambling to figure out WTF is going on.

Weird deal. From a musical perspective BT is the most replaceable member. From an energy and presence perspective probably the least replaceable. Should make for an interesting tour and record. If this is health related, hope he’s alright.

I’ve said this for awhile, DMB was over when roi passes away. This is just another step away...

Kind of excited for tomorrow night.

    Hope BT is okay.
