Oh I mean I don't go to venues that don't have good history. Dte? 0% chance I would ever go there. But my list was just of shows I would consider top tens out of 68 I have been too... I loved almost every show except for ac n1 and 2 and chicago n1 add nats park to that list.

Cville n2 and msg n1 and philly were also good. Gorge 2010 was awesome and wrigley for me was amazing.

Those are 4 of the best live bands out there right now. Not enjoying them is one thing, that's opinion (albeit a terrible one), but it's alarming that you've never even heard those names before.

At one venue, yes, obviously there shouldn't be any repeats. At multiple venues, I think there should be minimal repeats still. I like the five night breakdown of sets posted earlier- that should be the standard for multi-venue runs. At the same venue- no repeats whatsoever.

I think the question ultimately revolves around what is repeated as opposed to how many are repeated for most of this board, especially those that said pre-caravan that they wanted more variation and are still complaining post-caravan.

Night Four -- No repeats from N2 or N3; no more than 5 repeats from N1

I like this ...... I see the band in Southern California mostly. They do not play 2 nights stands at one venue a lot here but they do a lot of back to back nights (LA, Irvine, SD) and most of the time between these three shows about 75% of the songs are the same all 3 nights (lately). No reason there should be repeats on back to back nights in the same general area. I went to the Gorge this year for the first time and plan on incorporating some of the bigger venues each year (Apline, SPAC, WPB) so I can get more variety. 2010 was MUCH better than 2009. I am hoping 2012 brings even more variety and surprises.

I enjoyed plenty of sets from 2010. The summer and fall tours were a blast (Especially C-Ville )

    This, for me

If they played Two Step or Billies all 3 nights I'd be
If they play OOMH all three nights

This is right on the money. If they repeated anything from the Big 3 or Busted Stuff, chances are people would have no problem with that (Given that those songs are considered the strongest in their catalogue). The problem is they want to repeat Big Whiskey, Blackjack, etc. I like Big Whiskey quite a bit but they consistently want to play at least 5-6 songs from it per night, while no other album gets that treatment nowadays.

So some people in this thread think that being into "hippy jam bands" makes you an awful person. Or, rather, I assume it's just a joke. You can't really think that... right?

Yeah see I don't fall in line with those people. A repeat is a repeat, I don't care if it's Two Step or Can't Stop. If I'm at the Gorge, I want three nights of complete variety.

Some great points here. The problem I have, with some of the sets this past year, select shows are loaded with classics, when another has none.We all pay $$$ for each show.2010 was more balanced. At least at my 5 shows that year.

Example,N1 AC, below average IMO.The first night of the Caravan Tour, and thats the set ? The 6 + month layoff showed. Many mistakes at this gig. Why couldnt they have tossed in Bartender,41 or Crush from N2 ? Just one of those songs instead of 5 BW songs, would have made the show better. N3 was epic, only 2 BW tunes,N1 had 5.Why is that ? Take out 1 of BW from N1,and give me What Would You Say etc.....

Its as if the band right off some shows, and load up others, with all the classics.Only 12 shows were on the schedule. Each nights set should have had classics. Not just 1 night. Also, not everyone can attend all 3 shows. Some of us work, have wives that work, have children and other huge responsibilities. The classics should be spread out over the 3 nights.I paid for 3 shows this year.AC N1,RI N1 and N3.I didnt hear 41 ,Bartender,2 Step or Crush.I heard Sattellite 2 X,PM 2X,DDTW 2X,YMDT 2X,CB 2X,FTWII 2X,7 2X....etc......

The Saturday and Sunday shows were and are the ones that single night ticket buyers should have bought. From a business perspective (and a lot of concert experience) the band knows that the crowds will be much larger on those two days, so they save their best stuff for then (you can see this at most every caravan stop. The friday (i.e. N1) shows were really only for the people with three day passes. Hardcore fans and setlist watchers might disagree, but the band wants to please the greatest number of people, which means saving the best material for the N2 and/or N3 shows.

There's definitely something to what you said, in terms of Dave playing crowd pleasers like Halloween and Ants N3, for example. But I'm not at all convinced Dave thinks the "classics" are in any way superior to his newer material.

yeah, the amount of people at N1 RI was laughable you could have gotten to maybe 15th-20th row like mid-show, no way there was more than like 8500 people there.

I understand what you are saying, but the main set at N3 RI isnt anything to get worked up about. The Stone (I love),Warehouse (classic)..what else from the main set N3 ? For a N3,and the last gig of the Caravan ,was kinda weak IMO.The best material was spread out N1 and N1.

The encore was insane, but the main set, maybe average ??

Not being able to ask Dave his opinion, I couldn't say, but I do think that his more recent material holds more meaning to him personally. He's at a very different part of his life than he was 10-11 years ago when he was writing those "sad bastard" songs (his words from an interview, I think) and while the fans might hold them in higher esteem, they might just not mean as much to Dave anymore.

True. But the main setlist for N1 is way better,IMO,than N3 main setlist.Place was empty, but the setlist was great N1.

Randall's Island N3 was kind of an exception for the N3 shows, in that it was an average show (encore was great though) but I wouldnt call it below average against the caravan as whole (or the last few tours for that matter). Most of the songs you say you missed were longer songs, and the majority of those were almost always played on N2 shows.

True.My point here is that,N3..the last show of the Caravan Tour....IMO....should have had a better main setlist...N1 main set was better.I loved both shows, and if they are released,I will put N1 main set, then put N3 encore after it.Then you have an epic gig.

    Bartender,Crush or 41 could have been left out N2,for N3.Instead,I got a 20 min version of LITHOG.....again.

I think part of the problem for some on this site seeking "epic" gigs each night is about perspective. I think the band/Dave probably likes much more of their work in different ways then we do. I'm sure with the possibility of a few exceptions the guys in the band are proud of the music they produced and think songs that some find "bad" to be very good and they enjoy playing them. I bet Dave thinks that the n1's had lots of great music that he loves to play. Dave knows there are certain songs that are huge fan favorites and that's why he saves them for big moments but I think he thinks most of his music is pretty good and he's right. Because he thinks most of his music is good he probably wants to play the more recent stuff because it's fresh and fun for them as opposed to continually playing songs that are 20 years old.

Here's the thing -- do you honestly believe that Dave views the quality of a show like AC N1 as equal to AC N3, especially from a fan's perspective?

You are pretending like they have repeated a song at gorge recently... I know you have a very busy cancelling show schedule and rooting for two teams in the same conference but its pathetic
