Re: What are you reading right now?

For any of you comic book/graphic novel fans, I just started reading Omnibus Vol. 1 of Hellboy. I love it so far.

Any suggestions on books to read to your kids? Just finished The Life and Adventures of Santa Claus by L Frank Baum with my 6 and 9 year old. They want to keep having me read to them (almost) nightly. I don't want to read something like Magic Treehouse. I'd like to read something of value and something I'd enjoy as well.

I don't have anything I'd feel comfortable recommending for someone's kids but I wanted to commend you and encourage you. Reading to other people is a nearly lost art and an undervalued skill.

I hope you find something both you and your kids can enjoy together, don't stop reading to them until they make you!

Recently finished up "Coach Wooden and Me: Our Fifty Year Friendship On and Off The Court" by Kareem Abdul-Jabbar

    Loved it.

Currently reading: "12 Rules For Life: An Antidote to Chaos" by Jordan Peterson

    Really really good so far.

I was curious, how does this thread feel about reading forewords? Do you read them or skip them?

I usually read them as I think they're part of the whole deal.

Hard skip for me. If I love the book, I may go back and read it depending on who wrote it. But when just starting a book, I don't want to hear someone else jerk it off before I've even read the first line.

Re: What are you reading right now?

Only read the forewords before starting the book if it’s in the non-fiction history category, where I already know the general outcome. A lot of forewords get very spoiler heavy, and this is especially true for classic fiction books. I avoid them like the plague for this and also because of Matthew’s reasoning - I find the jerking off of it annoying.

Thanks. It was a lot of fun. My daughter currently has me reading some Purrmaid book thats a cross between a cat and a mermaid. I need something else.

It's also cutting in my own reading time, but it's worth it.

Haunting of Hill House - Shirley Jackson. It's a pretty short book, and I'm flying through it. I binged the Netflix series and wanted to read the source material. It's a great read!
